Today is the tenth anniversary of Bob Kamps's death.
We had a soggy winter in 2005. Stoney Point was off limits to climbers. On March second Bob went to the climbing gym. On his way out the door he kissed me goodbye, gave a sheepish grin, and said, "A man has to do what a man has to do."
Somewhere I read that a person lives on until there is no one left to remember them. In that sense, for those who knew and loved him, Bob lives on.
A plaque has appeared at Stoney Point to honor him. My first visit was with Tom Higgins and Andrew Lichtman. They were both teenagers when they first climbed with Bob. For them he was all three, inspiration, mentor and friend. That went beyond climbing.
Last Monday, with rain threatening, I went again with our niece, Monica Kamps Lobenstein. The chalky sandstone wall is to explain the number 26 on the plaque. That was Bob's personal best for the number of laps on this traverse.
BonnieWe picked up a little trash before we left the area. Bob would have liked that.

Hey Pyro

I am in town hanging out in West Lake, and working in Chatsworth for a couple months, I would be honored if you would show me around Stoney.

Thanks for posting your photos and comments, Mrs.Kamps (@Fan). Thanks again, also, for the encouragement that you gave to my daughters when they first caught the climbing bug a few years back; they still remember your kind note.

Wow Ryan, that video tour of Stoney was awesome!

Can't believe I never climbed at Stoney...only made it there once, for Bob's memorial. My loss, for sure.

I love this thread. Please keep it going...and thanks.
