LEB, just for clarification, after 5 years I'd think you would know, if you look to the left, under the name of the poster, it often lists location.

Palin is similar to Arnold...Lots of sex appeal but no substance...Look what that did for california..California is still over their head in debt after Arnolds promise to get rid of special interest and cut state spending....I doubt if miss alaska , who has flunked geography and world politics , would have any more luck than the speedo clad beef-cake ...Get real...rj

Bob,
Alaska has no debt they can't cover.
Alaska is sitting on $28 BILLION, known as "the permanent fund".
That's enough to pay off California's debt and whatever debt Alaska has run up put together.

I double checked, Rotting-J, and you were right.
It's more like $37 billion.
That's what I get for working from memory.
$37 billion will probably cover every state budget deficit in the country.

Chaz...The state is facing a budget shortfall approaching $1.65 billion this year, the Palin administration said Tuesday. It's a far bigger problem than state officials predicted two months ago in their last forecast.
Gov. Sarah Palin responded to the shortfall with a proposal that taps state savings. Palin said she was also reducing spending by $268.6 million. But a closer look shows most of that is just accounting -- not cuts from how much the state would otherwise spend on programs.
"They're claiming a $268 million cut. The reality is it's pretty much just a net zero proposition," said Anchorage Republican Rep. Mike Hawker, a budget leader in the state House.
Palin budget director Karen Rehfeld defended the proposal. She said the bottom line is indeed $268 million less in anticipated spending -- while acknowledging most of that is because the state lowered its estimate of much it would have to pay in oil tax credits.
Rehfeld said slashing the budget would not be responsible.
"We were really trying very hard to minimize the impact on public services, those types of things. Because I think that with the current economic conditions there's sensitivity. < snip >...
Rehfeld said that -- along with the $268 million less in anticipated spending -- the administration proposes to draw $1.36 billion from reserves this year to make up for the shortfall.
**The state has over $7 billion in savings it can use to absorb deficits. Most was deposited last year when the state had a surplus. But those savings could go away quickly.
**
On top of the $1.36 billion draw that Palin wants for this budget year, which ends at the end of June, legislators expect an additional shortfall of up to $3 billion in the coming year.
She is a complete fake. I only a fool like LEB would buy into her agenda.

(CNN) – The incoming House Oversight and Government Reform chairman on Sunday tried to clarify his recent remarks to Rush Limbaugh where he called President Obama "one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times."
Rep. Darrell Issa said he meant to say the Obama administration instead of the president.
"When you hand out $1 trillion in TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) just before this president came in, most of it unspent, $1 trillion nearly in stimulus, that this president asked for, plus this huge expansion in health care and government, it has a corrupting effect," Issa said on CNN's "State of the Union."
Although TARP – the program passed in 2008 intended to strengthen the financial sector by purchasing assets from financial institutions – was passed by Congress under the Bush administration, Issa said the unregulated funds were used by Obama like "presidential earmarks."
But the California Republican also admitted Congress shares some of the blame.
"All of that would not have been possible if Congress had done its job," Issa told CNN Chief White House Correspondent Ed Henry. "Instead what happened was we gave President Bush (the money and) President Obama inherited $800 billion worth of walking-around money with no guidelines."

5 health reform goodies for 2011
By Constance Gustke • Bankrate.com
Here's a sampling of notable 2011 reforms set to kick in:
Free Medicare preventive care for seniorsThis significant reform, which includes annual physicals and even personalized preventive care plans, affects 45 million folks on Medicare. The upshot: no more out-of-pocket costs for wellness visits. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force oversees the process.
"Many seniors don't have annual checkups because they're not covered," says Joe Baker, president of the Medicare Rights Center. "This is a valuable benefit."
Also, doctors will be paid higher incentives to stay in Medicare programs. "This should help if you're having problems finding primary care," says Zuckerman. "It's an increasing problem with a graying population."
Closing the Medicare drug doughnut holeSeniors with Medicare Part D coverage get a 50 percent discount for brand name drugs and a 7 percent discount for generics next year. Phased-in discounts continue every year until 2020, when the doughnut hole -- the difference in the initial coverage limit and the catastrophic coverage threshold in Medicare Part D's prescription drug progam -- closes totally.
"Before, when the threshold was reached, you had to write a check for the full retail amount," says Tassey.
High-risk programs for Medicare enrolleesThe goal of this reform is to connect hospitalized Medicare patients with community health services after they're released.
"There are innovative reforms that could lead to better health care," Baker says.
Policing insurance costsThis reform creates a medical loss ratio for insurers that aims to justify premium increase. If the ratio is exceeded, policyholders get rebates. The reform's strength depends on state enforcement, though.
"The reform does put a cap on insurance profitability," says Tassey. "The intent is that premiums won't go up much."
Nutritional transparencyThe nutritional values of food sold at chain restaurants and from vending machines must now be disclosed in an easy-to-understand format. The FDA will oversee the reform
