A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling, by Mark Twain

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all. Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli. Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirent speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

Perhaps it has been stated already, but my personal word I hate is "irregardless."

edit: I see Tuolumne Tradster and I are on the same page. And like Gal stated I also can't friggin' stand the gangster talk such as 'jes saying' 'yo' etc. This pet peeve is so strong that I can't stand to speak with someone who talks like that.

trad

my favorite was when i met some dude in indian creek on his last day there and he told me that it was really cool he now knew how to trad climb. i had a good laugh.

i don't know, but when anyone ever uses that word it makes me cringe. "Do you trad climb?"
it makes me want to say no and walk away as fast as i can.

Any insult followed by "just sayin'".

Yoga and vegan are working their way up my list. I've got nothing against either practice, just the way my FB friends sell them harder than church TV sells Jesus.

Words you are sick of

When it comes down too it I'm no longer sick of much of anything, except maybe the trolls on this forum.

But one of the things I just read led me to question something that I have said many times in the past, no taken a little too far, but only in the interest of making fun of language.

Someone said "it's all about them when you are gone" in reference to money matters, the them in this instance being family. It's all about them when you are gone.

When I think about it, I find not much of anything is all about anything else. The world is all about more than just dirt. The oceans are all about more than just water. The mountains are all about more than just peaks. and all about more than just rocks, or trees.

People are all about more than just what they do. People are all about more than what they watch on TV, or how they pay their bills. They are all about more than if they can pay their bills at all.

So when I think about it, it's almost never all about a single thing. Ever.

Not even when you meet the love of your life is it all about any specific thing. As with most things on this planet, things are rather complex. So it would be more correct to say its all about everything. That's what it's all about!

Isn't it?
