Good luck with that Donnini- wilderness is a legislative designation, not a reflection of reality.

Memorial Day: ski crampons would've been nice for the up-track; skins wouldn't hold on icy crust, kicking steps with tele boots was a bit of a grunt ... but the view, and the downhill run when the snow softened up, made it so worth it.

I assume there is no camping allowed throughout tioga pass rd?... Can you camp in the campgrounds east of the pass or is there any better options?

I hear Saddlebag Lake Rd is still covered with snow. The Lee Vining Canyon campgrounds are probably open by now. There are also bivy-able areas on 120 east (east of 395) in the forest.

I think most everyone on here knows this, but spread the word to those who may not. If you bivy at Warren Corner, (or anywhere outside a campground for that matter.) it is not OK to have a fire, leave your tp, poop anywhere, or pitch a tent.
You must drive somewhere to poo, or pick it up and dispose of properly, not leave a camp or otherwise make it look like anything more than a parking area.
If you insist on "setting up camp", then please walk the 200 yards into the free walk in campground and camp there.
There may not be an LEO this summer, but the FS workers will report illegal camping if they think it is out of hand, or they see any of the things I mentioned above. And believe me, they check Warren Corner regularly in the middle of the day when no one is there.
It is technically illegal to disperse camp in Lee Vining Canyon. This from the Inyo NF web site.
This post was inspired by a conversation I had yesterday with Minerals. He picked up TP and destroyed a leftover campfire there, probably from skiers memorial weekend. NO FIRES! NO TP FLAGS!
Thanks. If you keep a low profile, it will help keep this bivy site available.

Warren Corner?
I've bivied near Tioga Pass, but never knew any names of places.
Oh, and every time I've tried to sleep in the walk-in campground, it has been full... I assume it is usually full.
Anyway... I'd love love love to get up there skiing this year, but it ain't happening due to lack of partner commitments. *sigh*

I think it's a newish name, used to be "that road they blocked off" before that, it was 'that old abandoned side road'

I am certain Donini can kick Arnold's and Barack's asses at the same time and still have the energy to re-write the Master Plan.

hossjulia, this can't be stressed enough. It's for discreet car camping inside your rig. NOT pitching tents, massive cooking set ups, campfires etc. I've watched it get worse and worse each year. Eventually they'll just close it off altogether if people don't get it together and stop treating it like a full service campground.
