This is a getting funny. An unknown robot complains in their first post that liberals want to take everyone's guns away, implying that liberals don't own guns. And then says they won't identify themselves because a liberal might shoot them.

That is classic obfuscated logic. Maybe we should keep this robot around. You can't make up this kind of logic.

I also like how this robot says it is here to point out hypocrisy, while acting like a hypocrite.

It reminds me of my morning spent trying to get a gift through France's customs. What a nightmare. In the end the item will cost me double, and it still won't be in France.

Another true story --

In the 1970s I went to Italy as an American Field Service exchange student. Unbeknownst to me and to AFS, the family I was assigned to were fascists -- card-carrying members of the MSI, the successor to the Fascist Party. In the town I was in, Padua, all youth organizations and sports leagues existed in both fascist and communist incarnations and never the twain did meet. The political parties had youth auxiliaries, which were actually street gangs that engaged in pitched battles with the occasional fatality. They used knives and clubs, never guns. When someone died in one of these battles, his organization would put up posters all over town with his face on it.

For a long time, the Italians referred to these years as the Years of Lead. The boys in the family I was staying with ran with the local fascist gang but I was regarded as a non-combatant and not asked to participate, although allowed to observe.

My point is, we are not there yet. There is a difference.

Contractor--

I mentioned in another thread that my daughter is learning to climb at a school with a 60K sticker price. And getting credit for it. This, after years of futilely begging her to accompany me to my local top-roping area.

I can comfort you by saying, the class is slightly better than "Psychotherapy for gerbils".

I suppose we all have a little Haitian in us.

Conflict among climbers -- a good read.

I highly recommend Mark Helprin's novel A Soldier of the Great War, containing passages about the fighting among the Dolomites during the First World War. Apparently both the Austrian and the Italian armies drafted the local climbing guides and used them against each other. So you had people who knew each other tossing hand grenades and rolling boulders down the routes they both knew.

And Helprin is a climber of sorts, so knows whereof he writes, and in any case writes like a dream.

If ever in Cortina d'ampezzo hike over the Tofana. All the earthworks put there during the first war have been preserved as a WWI memorial. Well worth the effort required to see them.

I would like to apologize for my comment in defense about the poster who wrote they would party if DT, or a supporter of his, died.

Honestly, I didn't see that last line that has been quoted. Honestly, it surprised me to see it when Cosmic posted, and I went back to make sure that was, in fact, what had been posted. I can't find that original post, but I assume that it was as is quoted, and as that stands, I should not have chosen to defend it.

we've got off topic somewhat from the OP.

I am accused for being hypocritical, but I wonder of those critics of mine how they defend the POTUS who used vile language in an obvious show of disdain for other people?

Now there seems to be a general trend with the person who is the current POTUS which dates back to when I read about him from my life in Manhattan all those years ago. That is, after saying something for which the public response is highly negative, this person denies that he ever said it.

This denial gets ratcheted up to legal action in some cases, and this is, by and large, part of the bully he is, and also reflect his relatively privileged life, he has the resources to pursue legal action against critics, and even to loose, in the long run.

Someone like that attracts all sorts of people around them who are willing to defend him, even when he lies about what it was he said, and in particular when he miscalculates what the reception of the statements are going to be. You can enrich yourself coming to his defense, he'll pay.

He has been doing this, successfully, since the 1970s.

How anyone would defend him is beyond me, and in a lot of cases quite hypocritical to positions they took when other people occupied the White House. It would seem that bad behavior shouldn't know party affiliation, yet it seems among his supporters to be the case.

And the kind of bad this particular POTUS is exceeds expectation for any of the former occupants.

Ed, these guys are like the defense attorneys at the Nuremberg trials. Their job is hard enough without your badgering.

tRump is the wake up call for just how far this country has fallen. The backward attitudes demonstrated but his supporters and defenders are why we are being left behind.

China will soon become the new world leader, or maybe Germany. The US will sit in the corner of the bar, talking about how "great" we used to be, mumbling incoherently about border walls and how the immigrants and people of color ruined everything.

Emigration to Norway is at an all time high. Over 9 times what came here.

and why not? Free college education and health care.

Just in case you thought I was posting FAKE quotes

Like I wrote - I didn't recall seeing that line. Simple as that. And so I went to double check. Usually I have pretty good reading comprehension and don't miss details, but it seems I am losing my edge as I age.

Edit: But for what it's worth, Cosmic, I don't see what that person wrote to be any worse than the attack you made directly on a particular person the other day, with your "drunk" images. So, were I you, I'd remember that when thinking I somehow have taken a higher road.

Throughout the 1980s, the US armed, trained and financed murderous paramilitaries in El Salvador. The junta killed tens of thousands. The murderer of Archbishop Oscar Romero? US-trained. The murderers of 6 Jesuit priests? US-trained. The US wanted El Salvador to be a shithole.

Yes--and it's so curious how so many africans ended up on tiny islands in the Caribbean without any resources or material wealth...almost like someone brought them there against their will or something...Haitians have more dignity and class than Trump can even imagine.
