Jim, maybe someday but for now am stuck in So Cal.
Anytime you are in So Cal and want to climb let me know. I climbed with you once in JT about 5 years ago on a cold winter day, we did Double Cross and some other obscure climb. I’ve got a lot more free time now so hit me up if yer in town.

Not trying to be a Negative Nancy, rather a WTF-Are-You-People-Doing-Derp:
http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/make-the-most/heres-how-much-the-average-40-something-has-saved/ar-AAt9qkC?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp
"Among U.S. households headed by someone aged 44 to 49, the average
retirement savings balance is $81,347, according to the Economic Policy
Institute. But while that number may not seem all that bad, it's also a bit
misleading. A small number of of wealthier people who are financially able
to set aside very large amounts can easily pull an average up. And in fact,
they do. If we take a look at the median retirement savings balance --
signifying that half of these households have more saved, and half have
less -- it's just $6,200. And what this tells us is that there are far more
40-something families whose nest eggs are below the average than above it.
What this also tells me is I should invest in recycled mobile homes.

Horrifying Reilly. I often am amazed our older homeless population isn't 10, or 100 times worse, maybe it will be as time goes on, especially if the RNC every gets enough votes to gut social security.
I feel for those who already have low spending and still can't save at all, for them the only options involve SSA, or falling back on relatives if their employability runs out before SSA kicks in. But many other indebted folks with no retirement savings are the ones with decent jobs but with RV's, boat's, and brand new SUV's in the driveways of their oversize house. Most are so blind to not see a connection.
Reducing your lifestyle and banking the saving is an option available to many more than realize it. Most folks celebrate a raise by buying a new car, remodeling an already functional kitchen, eating out more, etc. it is another monthly bill they can now fit into their budget. Frankly if you aren't saving 20-30% of your after-tax pay, your should be pinching pennies like it is an emergency.
Every raise, bonus, or unexpected windfall should immediately (like THAT day) be set aside into savings (401k/403b/457, IRA, Roth IRA, or taxable investment account, in roughly that order). About every year or two you should be calling every subscription thing you pay for to ask for a lower rate, or just to cancel it. Once you get to 30+% savings rate you can carefully add luxuries back in if they really make you happier.

+ Mega hell yeah, Moof. There is SO much people could do to plan for the future, but they just ignore it. Dealing with someone in that situation right now--not me or my wife--but it SUXS! Invest, save, stash! Lots of folks could do so much more.

Congratulations Bat!
29 years is a long time on the job-as Tad said, thanks for all you've done!
I'm on year 31 of teaching and hope I'll be finished in another couple years.
25 is enough for any sane person...

Congratulations!
2610 days left for me. A few less if I can get expenses down even more and get the savings rate past beyond my current 48%.

It's not hard at all "Finding" things to do when retired...
Right on. After my buddy Ray retired he told me, "I don't know how I ever had time to go to work!"

Congrats Batrock! You made it! Hope to get out there to Saline again with you one of these days when it's not below freezing.
PS: This thread depresses me. I see now I'll be wandering the streets homeless if I ever stop working.
