Six or seven repeats of about half a block, trying out shoes at A Runner's Mind, a new-ish locally-owned running store in Burlingame (1199 Howard, http://www.arunnersmindbeyondthefit.blogspot.com/);. Great store, great stock, low-key and helpful salespeople, none of that Road Runner Sports ickiness.

Great 20.5 mile mountain bike ride this afternoon.
Only saw two hikers the entire ride, and they were way down at the far end of the trail.
It was only 95 degrees... where'd all the desert weenies go?

Hey Jaybro, thanks for asking. It's arthritic as hell. On the upside, the talus is still viable, so I haven't had to have the thing fused (yet). I got most of my mobility back though, and if I use it a bunch it definitely gets tougher. On the flipside, a couple weeks on the couch, followed by a big day, hobbles me up pretty bad. Cobble beaches or standing around all day on concrete are just about the worst. I feel each storm coming too, so March was rugged. But really I feel pretty lucky that I can even have big days, or walk for that matter.

All things considered that seems pretty good! was that TR here or on the Fetish? Sounds like ti forces you to stay active, that's not all bad!

JB - not looking too great for me. Looks like you might have a couple good days early in the week. Here's the 10-day hot off the presses...

Bomber!
Really, close to ideal... I fear heat (anything over 65) raining but warm here in SLC tonight.

Jaybro, have a blast on your road trip and mind that calf. Do you roll it with a foam roller or lacrosse ball? Hurts like a mother but releases the tightness so you are good to go the next day.
Today I biked 30 miles (in NYC, so inhaling fumes offset any cardio value I am sure) but also did 5 rounds for time of 400m sprints, 5 moderately heavy back squats. Nice leg burner workout!
I am jealous of desert heat. It is only 45F or so here still. I love that dry desert heat....

I've actually been doing exactly that, Lisa! Though it's not a lacrosse ball per see.... 10.5 hrs driving today, 4 more tomorrow, and then, hopefully some climbing. Maybe a trail run in Arches if it's still raining.

Just leaving my house, gonna ride down to Dover (27 ish miles) then back to my house along the Viking coast route. All told it will be around 100 miles. And it's a beautiful day, bike is cleaned and lubed, ipod is charged up, and calexico's "Carried to Dust" is the first album in the line-up today. Only ten more days in England, gotta take advantage of this weather!

Wildone, is there a camera in your gear list too? It sounds beautiful.
We have lovely sunny weather this weekend. I ran a trail 10K in the Bronx this morning (surprised?) and had a blast. We did run through some burntout woods at one point which made me LOL. Not just cars anymore....
I finished in 53:06 which is a good time for me. I was first in my age group and won a whole carrot cake. Amazingly it survived the bike ride home.

Just got in, 97 miles by my addition. Bonked super hard about ten miles from the end, drank a coke from a seaside vendor, then a few miles later, popped into a pub for a pepsi. Just completely depleted my blood sugar, glucose, glycogen, etc. Made it home though. Treated this ride as a TT and pushed the pace pretty hard throughout. Took a bath with lavender oil, got a massage from my special lady friend with homemade balm of gilead from her cottonwoods in mt, drinking some local (like I can see the orchard out my window) kentish pear cider...feel pretty damn good. Got the lentil soup cooking right now. I'll be sleeping happily very soon.

I loves me some carrot cake. That wouldn't have made onto the bike, much less all the way home.
Strength (hangboard) Fri, first session of the new phase/new cycle. I usually start with the prior phase's 3rd workout as a guideline. It's usually very close, you lose max strength and gain anaerobic endurance toward the peaking phase of the cycle, so retaining 20% of what you gained in the prior strength phase sounds depressing but is quite good over the long run (talking years). Felt good, could have possibly gone with the 4th workout from prior but better to start very slightly easier than ideal than to overdo it on first session.
1hr aerobic moving sheets of drywall yesterday, on the bike today as soon as I find my shorts. Nice cloudy and much cooler day in SoCal today, and nowhere near as windy as yesterday.
Who needs Crossfit when you've got Homefit? For time (had a day laborer on the clock): 30x repeats of carrying doubled sheets of 1/2"...squat, deadlift, bicep curl to tilt, farmerswalk, negative bicep curl to reverse tilt, reverse deadlift.

I have tons of motivation and absolutely no discipline, so I'm incapable of doing anything aerobic on my own. Even had I the equipment, I'd never be able to do crossfit at home alone. But, unfortunately, I got talked into registering for the tough mudder in VT at the beginning of May.
So, despite the fact that I'm already a member of a $10/month gym that I go to like twice a month, I went and joined the fancy gym last week and I've been going to classes. That's the only way I get any work done: when I'm in a room with everyone else feeling like I'm totally being judged. Bodystep class has been really fun so far (especially because even if I wanted to half ass it, you can't really, or you'll fall off the step or something), but I went to a Bodypump class last Friday and it was hideous. I had no idea how much weight I should be putting on my bar so I figured first time out, better keep it light and easy and I just put on the same amount of weight as the saggy flabby 65 year old women in the class. Big mistake. By the end of class my triceps were so blown I couldn't even finish complete sets.
You'd think that ice climbing 40+ days this past season might have done something for me... but I guess not.
We'll see how it goes. Hand surgery on Thursday means no more bodypump class for a while for me, anyway!

1hr on the bike. 7min Warmup->45min O2&Tempo ride w/ short hills @ 70%-82% MaxHR->8min cooldown.
Absolutely perfect weather for it. Enjoying my post-ride chocolate milk right now.
