Wow, this thread is a total tool shed.

I've been hit before, some sh!t just comes with the turf.

However, when I read this thread I was hit again by the 1st World WhineFest of the year so far. Maybe if you actually learned how to ski you wouldn't need groomers or lifts or god forbid...negotiating a sit mark on a run?!?! you gotta be kidding me?
I'll bet y'all have n* of ways to get yer panties knotted eh?!

Fortunately our local hill grooms the bare minimum forcing the ninnies to drive 2+ hrs in the winter so they can 'ski' followed by dipping their pizza in ranch.

Hey, we wouldn't run into you annoying skiers if you ever looked left or right as you randomly turn all over the run.

Have you ever tried to pass a skier? It's like they intentionally take up the whole run and won't let you pass, but I don't know how it's intentional because I've never seen one look left or right before they turn.

May as well try to decipher a pattern in a random number generator.

Seems like I should take up skiing and missile into people.... why do you think he / she hit you? Because they were on a snowboard or because they were learning?

There's an interesting paper at https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-52755-0_2

New Zealand Snow Sports Injury Trends Over Five Winter Seasons 2010–2014.

Falls accounted for 74.3% of incident types with no difference between skiers and snowboarders; collisions 9.6%—snowboarders were more commonly injured in collisions than skiers 34 vs. 58% (8% tubing or other activity)

I used to pro ski patrol before snowboarding was common and ski collisions were quite rare, in my experience. I'd be curious to see stats on how resort injuries have changed with the advent of snow boarding.

One of them is, the person in front of you is never at fault.
True. The same rule also applies to cars on the freeway, but if someone is going 35 and swerving randomly across all 4 lanes without checking their blind spot it's kind of annoying.

Just to clarify, I've never ran into a skier but I can see how someone trying to be respectful and stay away can still find themselves in a collision by complete surprise.

Never been hit on the slope, but I ski top to bottom in one go and no one ever passes me. ;-)

I ski and snowboard so I have a balanced perspective. It's like after riding a motorcycle on the road, you know what it's like and when you go back to driving a car you are better at looking out for them. e.g. I know a snowboarder on a heelside turn is blind and give them a wide berth.

I really never had been hit by a skier or snowboarder, but again like riding a motorcycle on the road I'm always on the lookout for someone about to do something stupid, 360 degree awareness. I tend to ski right on the edge of runs because trees don't move, but most people don't want to ski/ride that close to something.

I have seen a couple snowboards come flying down the hill with no rider. One made it all the way to the parking lot and took out the headlight of the car next to me. The rider grabbed his board and took off without leaving a note. But we are still at the point where a snowboarder is typically younger than a skier and teenage punks are the worst. But in a couple decades it will probably be all the same age ranges.

Moguls rule. That was my favorite discipline BITD, but now half pipe is my favorite (the best thing snowboarding did for skiing, #2 is all the other terrain park features) and my knee is going.

Really the biggest difference is that it sucks to get around on a snowboard. On flats, traverses, riding lifts, slight uphills, etc. On skis you can skate and don't have to unbuckle and rebuckle and post hole. Way more convenient. Of course AT/tele with skins is even better for getting around.

Let’s remember that this thread is just a troll. But I’ll join the fun.

I skied for twenty years, learning as a kid at Big Bear on a rope tow that spun like a fan belt. I’ll never forget the first couple of times I gripped the rope too tight, shoulders almost pulled out of the sockets and shooting uphill on my back while my skiis released and and my jeans got even wetter and colder. I improved a lot when I moved to Colorado, and had tons of fun, becoming a proficient, if not a great skier.

My kids started snow sports in the 80s and 90s, and we gave them snowboard lessons at the nearby hills, since the sport was new and cool. One day the west wind was blowing hard and the wind-chill was about negative 30. My son refused to take his lesson, so not wanting to waste the money, I took his place. Once I linked turns, I was hooked. For me, the movement was superior to skiing: more fluid and smooth, and on a powder day there was the sinuous sensation of becoming water flowing down the nooks and crannies of the mountainside.

I never skied again.

I ride a long, wide board in powder, but looking at my friends as we ride the lifts, it seems that two of the newer powder skis put together now approximate the width of my board. I suspect that this allows skiers to come close to the surfy feel in soft snow that snowboarders live for, but I’ll never know. I would rather have a colonoscopy than put my toes--made sensitive from years in murderously tight EBS-- into those monstrous, plastic torture machines again.

Heading out in a couple of weeks for our annual snowboarding trip with my grown-up kids.

Rage on skiers!

Perhaps in another lifetime you will come to understand what you’re missing.
