Well done guys, maybe some of the lesser haters learned something here too. Let the thread stand and edit in medusa's real name to the first post if it is known, a searchable google legacy makes for a lesson well learned.

I spent the day on one of the better health recovery sites I have ever come across, another thread worthy subject

by all means kill the thread, philo. lynch mobs hate the morning after.

as i stated before, i think medusa owes an apology, but it'll be impossible for him to do that now. to me, the screaming of "as#@&%e" is as rude and inappropriate as the remarks medusa made, but it seems to be a hallowed ST tradition. so consider that it takes one to scream one.

the problem with ST is that it's mostly a guy-jock discussion place. frankly, i think a lot of threads suffer because of that. there are a few women who can navigate here comfortably, but i'll bet there are many more who prefer not to, and i think the tenor of our discussions is impoverished because of that. climbing, especially climbing in california, has a rather special history of mixed company. los angeles RCSers, during the depression era, lived under the same roof in a regular climbers' commune, we assume fairly chastely in the spirit of the day, and more than one successful marriage eventually came of it.

remarks as blatantly outre as medusa's aren't the problem. the real sexism is guys who are threatened by able and intelligent women. it only takes a little rudeness to get them to leave.

i don't appreciate being called sexist for pointing out that gender relationships involve different protocols. jeff, unfortunately, hasn't seemed to learn that, but i don't think the lynch mob has either.

This is true. During my 7 year hiatus from climbing I spent my time training Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (I was an instructor for several years) and some Mixed martial arts. I served as cornerman for a good friend during several MMA fights.

Like climbing (and many other things) there's an inverse relationship between skill and humility. A lot of the new guys to the gym come in with a bad attitude thinking they're super badass because they fought in the street a lot, usually against smaller and weaker people. Then they get twisted into knots and choked mercilessly until they drop the swagger. The ones that do end up learning a lot, and the ones that don't, don't come back after a while. Every guy thinks they know how to fight, and most have no clue.

Conversely, the guys you would never want to piss off are almost always the most humble and likable guys, and the first ones to try and avoid a physical confrontation. They have nothing to prove. But God help you if you step out of line and get on their bad side on the mats. I've seen huge bodybulder looking types get their knees destroyed because they couldn't drop the badass routine after being given ample time to do so.

The first rule of training there is "Leave your ego at the door". That's pretty difficult for almost everyone, and downright impossible for some. So, sometimes people get their egos checked for them.

No, I've not been in a fight since the 8th grade and I wouldn't want to. I'm no badass, and started studying because as a sport it's fun (and a super intense workout).

MOST of the IDIOTS that talk so BIG about fighting have NEVER even been in one...(NOT saying that is the case here)...

Coz...

Just read his post for Dave Tucker breaking his leg and it made me sick.

I here-by pull any support for the guy.

I do not condone his character or his words and if he said that about my GF or wife I would NOT punch him, but I certainly wouldn't forgive him or think him a good person.

I know you don't need to hear it from me but nice manning up. We all have people/moments we want to defend but when the reality of the situation becomes oh so clear the best of us acknowledge we were wrong and fall on the sword.

I hope that does not sound condescending... I am just happy to have you in the fold on this one.

While I am never pleased with censorship I think CM did the right thing here. The community (not just CM) spoke loudly and CM listened. Medusa created his own demise. Medusa was no longer welcome here and if the only way to make that happen was by electronically kicking his ass off the site, so be it.

Now we can move on.

I know Jeff and I know Callie....they are both my friends. Jeff's remarks are fully unexceptable;...this is a given. Many of the remarks in this post about Jeff are hard to read and hurtful as well, but understandable. The supertopo community of people/climbers , once again, show their strong feelings of care for each other by calling Jeff to the carpet for his insensitive and hurtful remarks to our friends. Where do you draw the line in the game of "He hit me so I hit him back.".....This scene has been played out before....I see it everyday in my kindergarten class. Jeff does have many friends on supertopo who cannot or will not come to his support on this one......I am one of those persons.......As a teacher of small children, I see and hear all sorts of mean, wierd, inappropriate stuff all the time;.....and I try to piece it all together so we can keep on being humans together......it's not always easy or fun. I wish I had a magic wand to fix this one...but I don't. As Jeff's friend, I would like to apoligize for him for his unexceptable behavior;......once again,.....his black "humor" and cyber-tough-guy persona went WAY over the line..(again)...and as for Jeff......another message from the climbing community that we all care alot about each other.....and you got called out this time big-time. Tomorrow is another day and I find it best to seek compassion, understanding, patience and truth in everything....including this post and situation for all involved.......

Todd, that was the best post on this thread. Thank you for your calm and measured response. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's friend but he was hurting one of mine. Despicable behavior like that can not be allowed to stand unchallenged. I don't go out of my way to be confrontational but I believe in fighting fire with fire and speaking truth to power. It takes a village to oust a ill mannered reprobate. I am sure my efforts are appreciated by most Topoians. But I know I have also further tainted myself in the minds of several others here who don't know me. Oh well so be it. I would do it again if something this egregious recurs.
For now I will let this thread stand as a testament to our collective concern for our cyber community.

Philo;......I as one appreciate yours and others concerns for our friends at supertopo and the climbing community in general;.....it's awesome to have a support group of friends and community to help us along, look after us, and yes, right the wrongs if possible and fix things that need fixin'. After the fixings been done, it's time to pick up the pieces, move along, and keep on keeping on with our continued concern and care for our fellow humans. ......even the bad boys in life need some looking after......once the spankings and diciplines have been dished out......again, Plilo;...thanks for your caring and concern, and your honest words......even if they have to be tough every now and again.

Now, anyone else need a tatooing beside Medusa?

Since this thread is still a hot topic, I'll add to it. Lynchmob?! Again, nonsense. I agree, philo, don't get rid of this thread. It's a good example for future reference.

This is a mature self-moderating forum. For those that missed it, here is another of Med#@&%e's recent posts:

"Crimpergirl has had a lot of after climbing breakups, usually the guy returns to the tent and there is another old dude in the tent pumping away..and another break up lol!!"

He doesn't even know Callie and she certainly didn't appreciate this comment. Who would? He consistently insulted posters regardless of the thread topic. Reminds many of us of Rajmit, a punk with no respect. If you're claiming this is a lynching, you're implying that it is unjustified. Does anyone here think this kind of behavior was remotely acceptable or has any real value?

Lynchings are not de riguer unjustified if they are virtually the only game in town.

But if this really is to be a lesson I for one would welcome a first person explanation of motive for his digital tourette's syndrome.
