Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee haw!!!
That was amazing seeing those penalty kicks...
Villa once again is the man.
I just love watching Spain's footwork under pressure, but boy it can be nerve wracking too...
Germany and Spain... that will be something to see.
cheers,

Two awesome strikes!
Uruguay certainly finished the half strongly!
The Uzbek ref didn't do badly but his linesmen were atrocious!
That last offside on Kuyt was ridiculous! Luckily he didn't score.
I hope they don't really mess it up.

Well, poetic justice. Uruguay lose to the Netherlands, 3 - 2. Given the handball which prevented Ghana from scoring in the quarter-final, and got Uruguay through on penalties, a fair result. A bit like West Germany's loss to Italy in the 1982 final, given how they beat France in the semi-final.

Obviously my Argentina VS Germany prediction was way off. Up until Germany's 2nd goal I thought Argentina still had a good chance of winning. The Germans were smart to allow Argentina to possess the ball and play their "beautiful game" methodically moving the ball toward the goal in a series of short passes. The German's played very tight defense never allowing Argentina to outnumber them in the box. Every time Messi tried to dribble the ball toward the goal they shut him down with 2-3 defenders. Tevez had a couple of chances but the Germans shut him down as well. The Germans are fast and very aggressive on the counter-attack and finally took apart the Argentine defense.
The match today between Holland VS Uruguay was fantastic. The 2 goals in the 1st half were 2 of the best goals of the tournament, both bullets from > 25 meters out. Holland will be a formidable opponent in the final.
If Spain plays against Germany tomorrow the way they played against Paraguay, the Germans will beat them. If Puyol, Ramos, & Villa are ON, and the Spanish defense stays focused and doesn't fall victim to the German counter attack, they can win.
Spain VS Holland in the final would be great...two teams that have never won a world cup.

Both Germany and Spain's defenses are both solid but I gotta go with
Germany's size and speed. Villa should get his goal but I think
Klose and Podolski will get theirs.

^^^ I hope you spare the Turks on the team. :-)
There's been a couple of stories about the Lebanese/German shopkeeper
of 20 years who has been flying the German flag in front of his shop.
The lefties in the neighborhood have been tearing it down and threatening
him about his overly nationalistic display of patriotism!
Then there were the riots in Bangladesh last week when there was a
power outage during a game!
I had to chuckle when the NBA so proudly trumpeted the tv ratings for the
NBA Finals. A whopping 35 million Americans watched - oooooh!
What, will 3 billion watch the Cup final this year?
Caution! Climbing related:
Of course those of us of a certain age recall the 1970 International Everest Expedition
was winging its way to Nepal when the Lufthansa captain came on the PA
"Ladies and gentleman, vee have the results of the qvarter-final match
betveen W. Germany and England. England 2 [pregnant pause] Germany 3!
The teutons on the left side of the plane erupt and one of them leans over
to Don Whillans and says,
"Zo, vee have beaten you at your national sport!"
Whillans' rejoinder was,
"Aye, that you 'ave mate, but we've beaten you at yours twice now 'aven't we?"

Thats the winning spirit man. FIGHT UNTIL DEATH! But I don't think the Spaniards are going to just roll over and purr for the Germs. This could be a scrappy match.

Germany vs. Spain.......
can't wait.
Obviously I have no stake in either side winning.
My mind tells me to go with Germany for their solid play and their execution of the fundamentals. But team Spain is tenacious and can pull off a devastating win just as well.
This should be a great game.
