To All-
It was not my intent to hijack this thread, but to point out the dangers of dealing with information provided by the Center for Biological Diversity.

The meeting I described earlier nearly turned into a riot; the sponser actually turned off the lights at one point to get people's attention, and the meeting terminated early. NO representatives of CBD were there....with good cause.

BDC
Has CBD ever had their feet held to the fire for their dishonest dealings?

They really don't seem to have much of a membership (that will openly admit to being members!) They don't present much of a "Public Face" that is easily rocognized.

I've worked with and against their attorneys on cases. I'd say the organization is more aggressive and ideological than, say, NRDC. I suspect they are funded mainly via the attorneys' fees provisions contained in most environmental statues- i.e., the "prevailing party" gets its fees.

Sounds a lot like well meaning zoning attempts. Zoning leaves you still owning the property--you just lost you use of it! In a real way, zoning is legalized government theft of a part of the property owner's use of that property.

Most of today's environmentalists couldn't have lasted a week in the Old West. It took tough as nails people like our ancestors to do it. They passed on their genes and that's why some of us are still cantankerous!

The Center for Biological Diversity has as one of it's stated objectives: to add 2 species to the endangered list annually.
Their latest "hit" in the Rocky Mountain States is the Black Tailed Prairie Dog. The claim is that efforts to control rangeland devestation by these pests is endangering the Golden Eagle by interfering with the bird's food chain. Note: There are something like 14 million Prairie Dogs in Wyoming, Northern Colorado, and South Dakota combined. Just ask any horse owner how they'd like some Prairie Dogs in their horse pasture!

I'd love to see right wing, male Caucasians added to the Endangered Species List.
