Gnome,
The cypress swamp is beautiful! Whose work is that? Really a great piece, I can feel the atmosphere of the place.

According to Google Images Search by Images, the painting is:

The Reserve in Summer from the series "A Carolina Rice Plantation of the Fifties," 1935. By Alice Ravenel Hugher Smith (American 1876-1958)

So I got up late and took the mid-morning YARTS bus to the Village, caught a few pix of the mall, and then boarded the E line for the run over to Yellow Pine.

I'd already been by there once, but the YARTS drivers cannot use the NPS shuttle stops except for designated stops, so I had to do the loop twice. At least I got to talk to the lady shuttle driver about how pigs really do fly on El Capitan.

More a little later.

I loved that old song so much I had to play it again.

You remember how I was all bereft? My short lens had been stolen? I have no money for such, being associated loosely with Willy and the Poor Boys and other foolish spenders. I had no other recourse than to hope that Jesus would do something...and I now have another short lens!!!

Pertinent.

I grabbed a ride with RatFad and went to the Village, spent some time sitting with Chickenskinner, who danced so hard at the West Auduitorium function on Saturday night that his ankle swelled up and hurt. People brought him ice packs and frozen peas to pack around it. He's no longer a spring chickenskinner.

I wish that I could have been around for more of the week and participated more, but you do what you can.

I brought cheesecake to the MeatFest, BTW.

These were all taken with the old long lens, not the new one.

NASA scientists find evidence of flowing water on Mars.

Researchers say discovery of stains from summertime flows down cliffs and crater walls increases chance of finding life on red planet

I love these chill mornings with an overcast that signals the end of summer.

There's the sound of snare drums from over across Bear Creek on the north side of town...the Merced HS marching band is out practicing its routines every morning at seven.

It's just as sure a sign of fall as the first flurries of snow in Tuolumne.

Enjoy your day, all. Pray for snow.

I'm gonna be Big Z for Halloween, Sweet Surfin' Mama!

The Rad Hodad back atcha, Barbarino!

I got to watch this last night. In 3-D. On John's new curved screen.

He's so proud of his new TV, HD 4th Generation with Super Powers. It has no Microwave, though. He's "roughing it."

The technology includes 3-D glasses which use their own tiny batteries. Aren't they cute, John? And they're NOT available everywhere? Awwww...

Two years from now this technology will have many more viewing possibilities, but right now, very few features demand the new technology. It IS incredible viewing, and you CAN count the number of zits on a person's face, like they claim, but is it necessary?

If you wanna keep thousands employed instead of hundreds doing the work behind the scenes, it is worth it. It's a luxury item. It's "progress."

The surfing penguins and chicken are using TEAK surfboards in this feature! A blend of old and new, though, so there may be a message in this movie.

It's a three-star story in a four-star binding, an Old Master in a sleek black plastic frame, a cave-painting that has no water-tracks running down through it lit by the light of living beings' souls.

A little hyperbole goes a long ways, just like a small tsunami.

If RGold can pimp a book, so can I.

I've never had the chance to meet Daniel, but wish to someday.

This guy is one of the tribe and a journeyman journalist and a talented cook.

His wife's name is Liz. I could go on. But I'm busy reading.

I've read Daniel's novel, too: Looking for Mo, published after this volume.

I almost got to go have dinner with Tom Rhorer, the original Mad Bolter, who is meeting Ben R and LostInShanghai and maybe Alice from Sonora, but things aren't gonna work.

So a shout-out to Tom, wherever you areyou deaf old fart!

The hazards of extreme adventure photography.

I was shittin' little boulders for hours afterward.

edit:
Good video, up there.^^^
Tha' skate park could use a nice ramp, zBrown.

edit #2:
Extreme adventure is where you find it.
The shots above show a relatively low extreme for ordinary hot shots and adventurers,
but not for myself.

Prepping for the donini challenge cup. Round trip 12.4, elevation gain 2935. Presumably the elevation gain = the elevation loss.

Not much shade, but we do feel we are being watched over. Could it be Junipero?

This is only legal on part of the road.
