The Gunks thread I bumped is not grasping any traction but oldfattradguy2, seems to still
Want some thing from the way back
in an attempt to get the old memories flowing,
I added that (below)
And then I started on this
and well , name dropping is weak sauce !
I have a long and twisted history of ups & downs. . .

I Moved this from the Gunks beta thread to the flames 'cause this is the place to troll for a
Man that I always respected and he seems to forget that I was a force to be reckoned with back then. I had the ear and eyes of the old guard .appies from way back when.

Doug S and I were out at a spot one day both solo, When I told him the stuff that was plaguing my existence due to the xenophobia, he laughed and fired up that plug he carried, and told me stories . . . .an equally fun grouping was Cluade Shul and Dave Craft throwing me at (and up) things when I was ten or twelve and not allowed to leave the Skytop zone.

Ho man I can't tell those stories that the old fat trad guy too, wants me to.
Dave Luhan
Dave Lahnman, ( and Steve )
Dave Karl?
Dave Fryeda?
A lot of Dave s,that were good at hauling. Rigging the pig of beer from the point of directissima.
And back to another point in the Trapps chimney the thing floated up, man was that cool the trick was landing the thing, also easy
and the sun set from the ledge with beers and that group !

Todd you know that when I showed ( back) up 83 or so, the climate was very - locals only.
I had spent the three previous years in the Daks at Paul Smiths. Missing the whole Marriot thing.
Y'all were in your glory and I was roaming, between NJ and the Gunks. Trading dark room time, for teaching private schooled kids, getting payed, or laid and climbing almost every day for one of those .

A cat named Jeff Mo took it very personally and savaged my name. As if he owned Crags wood - oh the irony in that! Jeff & I went a few rounds. I did not take his anchor off of Running man. But I was a the one who opened all the sub 5.11. (Except for Two main lines Lahnman & 'Rookie Management')The fact that I was there every weekend with Blue Gus and a crew of beginners right next to Scotty's project did not sit well with that crew.
Dan? What was his name? had fun with me climbing 11s in socks. And scaring me by dropping rocks while I soloed below him. Good times!

Danny Purcell!! He was a crazy smart n' early computer geek - he was teaching the engineers at IBM. A lean, nearing skinny, 6 ft + nearly albino Mutant climber, with a shock of curly white blond hair that was almost a fro.. How could I forget ? Dan married Judy who was. . .and had a sweet family place. . . . Where the band lived and played out. . .
well there I go again. . . To put it in perspective the times and the parties were full value.
Things started going south when a rock and roll scene started down the road of the setting sun. Is that to cryptic? Well the damage is done.

I will try to remember but those days are all a blur. At some point I must of done something
Romano, Munson - and all the Daves I mentioned. I really don't get your animosity. Our paths barley crossed. I kept a very low profile after the gates started to get locked.
I lived in a house at the Mnt house, took a job in house keeping after the house sitting gig and climbed with everyone I wanted to. I had my wedding at 'lunch rock'. When I did (the last?)roped ascent of 'A Short Climb or is it a 'short day'?- the climb out the hollow flake in the
Roof above the bench, the belayer wore a wedding gown and had just become a wife. Security stepped in and did not let her follow, and so I did not TakeThe Plunge; leap off the cliff as planned

I did care then I do not now. I had been a child climbing driving the dirt roads with care before y'all got that all shut down.

Here's one that apparently blew right by me.

Hells Angels plotted to kill Mick Jagger

The story I heard is that hellsangels demanded $50K for legal fees in the Altamont aftemath. Stones didn't pay until after the abortive murder attempt.

Why did lions get into this line of work?
It's a good lion to be in?
Lions are lazy and it wasn't that hard?

Action you say? 1934. A clue! Perhaps there wasn't much work due to the Depression?

As I told the dental hygienist today, my last dental cleaning was over forty years ago when I was still working and living in Berkeley. The gas used in placing a filling put me over the edge and freaked me out...nobody wants a vampire nurse hanging over his face when sharp dental thingies are inserted into his mouth!

I have half my teeth cleaned & polished and the rest should be done Monday. My mouth is all cardboard at the moment. If I were to spit, it would land on my chest. (I tried earlier, a definite no-no.)

I need to make an appt. for an angiogram and then I MIGHT be free to have heart surgery.

I knew goin' in this would be one hoop to jump through after another.

I'm gettin' over it. I'm just lucky to be here.

Gnome, keep on truckin', man. Sounds like you're lucky to be here, too, Mister Popular! Ever see any Angels on your shoulder? heh

Sounds like you could have used a bodyguard to keep from being tossed onto a climb like that Naughty Claude and his pal were doing to you. Among other things.

Somebody like Night TRain Lane of the Detriot Loins.

What if you were driving into the park in the Popemobile? Would the schmeglies pull over the Pope, for God's sake? I doubt that.

But what if you were the Pope? Would you introduce your pet lion, St. Mark, to the officers? OF COURSE!

Page one next day: Rangers Shoot Pope's Lion in Self-Defense.

This could be some real irony: The Christians get some payback from the Empire and an apology.

And what if the Pope brought along his pet parrot? The one he taught to say the Our Father? And they shot that bird? Oh, the parrot-shyte has really hit the fan now, dudes!

Spread all over the front page of The Vatican Enquirer.

The V.E. already has plans for a full-length Eastwood Italian western in the mill. The working title is Two Mules for Father Serra. No casting has been done. There may be a secondary plot line involving cougars (not hot-to-trot women of middle age, but the cats).

Where does Father Guido dig this stuff up? From the man at the top of this page. He's undercover gossip detective Joe McKeown. None other.

Could you imagine driving up Merced canyon and running into one of these?

Perhaps on your way to

Have a cool one to relax those nerves

Don't mind if you do

But what about the cocaine, you say?

Hale's account of the role of racism and social injustice in Coca-Cola's removal of coca is corroborated by the attitudes that the shaped subsequent U.S. cocaine regulation movement. Cocaine wasn't even illegal until 1914 -- 11 years after Coca-Cola's change -- but a massive surge in cocaine use was at its peak at the turn of the century.

Mind you now, these wimmens & menz were not even Muslims.

Anyone with a nickel, black or white, could now drink the cocaine-infused beverage. Middle-class whites worried that soft drinks were contributing to what they saw as exploding cocaine use among African-Americans. Southern newspapers reported that "negro cocaine fiends" were raping white women, the police powerless to stop them. By 1903, [then-manager of Coca-Cola Asa Griggs] Candler had bowed to white fears (and a wave of anti-narcotics legislation), removing the cocaine and adding more sugar and caffeine.

There's a photo in this link of Jim Shirley and myself and some others--Wally and another guy who got some of his teeth knocked out in a softball game...Jim Breshears, that's it--welcoming Bucky Fuller to TNF's Berkeley mfg. and design facility.

We had impressed Bucky with our use of his work. He came to investigate for himself.

I guess it was around the time of Saturday Night Fever, but this was on a weekday.
