Sorry RJ, that's faulty reasoning.

That the insurance companies are paying attention is proof of nothing.

If the UN can not a bring about world peace from the platform that war is bad (something we can all agree on, unlike AWG) ...

Faulty premise. There are obviously LOTS of folks who do not believe that war is bad. And many of those people have the power to make the decision on whether or not to shoot.

In other news, I just noticed that I spelled Keith Moon's name wrong in my OP (I corrected it in a down beat). Oh, the shame I am feeling.

Same logic as: Why can't we cure the common cold if we can go to the moon?

Because they are different things maybe?

Bringing about world peace and reducing emissions are using the same construct to limit/end the problem (The UN, EU, NATO, or like organization). There is a lot of talk and resolution. Antiviral research has little or nothing to do with politics, treaties, and tariffs. People who see the benefit in taking up arms are surely outnumbered by those who see the benefit in burning limitless FF’s. Same strategy, but much more difficult to achieve it would seem.

I do not think it is a non sequitur at all, same players, same strategy, different cause.

Here is a clue though.... SERE.

My dad went through something called Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape training back in 1970, him being an O-2 pilot in Vietnam.

But in your case The Chief it must stand for Survive (like a cockroach) through Evasiveness, being Resistant (to logic), and Escapism (into a fantasy world of your own making).

Or maybe you're talking about the word sere rather than the acronym. In that case, the clue is that your brain has dried up and withered?

...The sale of CCX to ICE allowed climateers like Al Gore’s Generation Investment Management and Goldman Sachs to cash out of investments in CCX.

dirtbag - not a very strong rebuttal and a repeat (although still worth
showing)

Where are your visuals? Maybe some pics of dried up lakes? Or a thermometer
reading 0.2 degrees higher than it should be?

Or maybe the Phoenix dust storm with an appropriate AGW caption would go further than dog sex for your side of the debate?

What if our response to AGW causes a billion people to starve to death?

We don't have purely profit driven capitalism. For the most part we have highly regulated capitalism.

And in what way has capitalism starved a billion people to death?

And, instead of capitalism, what would you prefer?

Most of the proposed "solutions" to the problems created by AGW and other evils associated with capitalism seem to involve making the world a better whiter place for wealthy people at the expense of people living very marginal lives.

Wes, what do you propose? It's easy to complain. Offer some solutions that work.

Understood. You just want to bitch online ad infinitum. Another luxury afforded you by cheap fossil fuel energy. :-)

Too funny Wes.

Ok. No solutions from you.

I too grow weary, but of people who over estimate their intelligence.

Really Wes, without meaning any personal offense, it seems like you have a wildly dystopian world view which leaves you swirling in a cauldron of hate and contempt from which you spew forth a bilious false omnipotence.

Lighten up. It's Friday. Try to enjoy being alive.

And yet the physics doesn't care at all about our political theories or talking points or what we don't want to pay. Doesn't care whether anyone believes in it or not.

This week in the Arctic, one place that I watch, sea ice reached its lowest extent for this time of year in the satellite record. A couple months to go before a September minimum is reached, which might or might not beat the 2007 record but will certainly be low. The big system is changing.

Chiloe, personally I have no doubt the planet is warming. I have some doubt people are the principal driver but defer to conclusions drawn by learned scientists of good intention like you and Ed.

However the much thornier questions are, what will the consequences be and what should and can be done about it? It seems like we are faced with choosing the lesser of several evils.

Unfortunately the entire debate about AGW and what to do or not do about it, here on ST as well as across the country, has settled along partisan lines and as with all things partisan, ideologues drive the debate, and no lasting political consensus is ever reached.
