Not one hour ago I came back from the Post Office and was going to PM you, Gnome, to see where in hell you've been.

But I decided to have another look at this thread.

I'm glad it's only carrion birds and not Mothra and his mate, dude.

We wish you the fortune we would wish ourselves.
--Tom Robbins, Skinny Legs and All

After coast redwood, Douglas-fir is the world's tallest conifer, and one of the most massive.--Ronald M. Lanner

May all of you reach such heights, if you come back to earth and are re-born as a tree. That is what I wish for myself, if that is to be the case post-mortem.

Edward Abbey, the curmudgeonly-but-honest writer, wanted to come back as a vulture.

Honesty in a dishonest age
Helps placate one's intemperate rage
Over critics' who cannot engage
The truth as it appears on the page
Of one's latest literary outrage.

"Why book reviewers hate my books:
Because the books are really no good? Perhaps. But I think I've got a better explanation.

Almost all reviewers, these days, are members of and adherents to some anxious particular sect or faction.
I.e., they are lesbians and New Agers or fem-libbers or (even worse) male fem-libbers or
technophiles or self-hating white liberals or right wing conservatives or Growth maniacs
or Negroes or female Negroes or Third-World lesbian militant Negro poetesses or closet Marxists (Marxoids)
or futurologists or academical specialists or Chicano idealogues or ballerinas or Kowboy Kultists
or Kerouac Kultists or Henry James Minimalist Perfectionists or one-tenth Chippewa "Native American" Indians
or at very least and all-inclusive Official Chickenshit Correct-Thinking Liberals etc. etc.

"As such, any member of any one of those majority minorities is going to find for certain
a few remarks in any of my books that will offend/enrage "s/he" to the marrow, leading inevitably in turn,
on the part of such sectarian book reviewers, to a denunciation not merely of the offending passage,
but of the entire book, and not merely of the book, but of the author too."

--This passage is one of Edward Abbey's last diary entries before his death on March 2, 1989, in Tucson, AZ.

They do not think for themselves but are steered in the direction of P.C. by others, in short.

By and large, in my opinion, critics do little good and much harm.

I see no sense in arguing about why or how someone acts, writes, speaks, draws, sculpts, or how they engage in any form of self-expression.

I see some sense in dissing politicians, judicial decisions, business practices, and bolting in most of its forms.

Yes -- even after my death
you shall not escape me
I'll follow you
in the eyes of every hawk,
every falcon, vulture, eagle
that soars in whatever sky
you walk beneath,
all the earth over,
everywhere.

Yes -- and when you die too,
and follow me into that deep
dark burning delicious blue
and become like me --
a kind of bird, a feathered thing --
why, then I'll seek you out
ten thousand feet above the sea;
and far beyond the world's rim
we'll meet and clasp and couple
close to the flaming sun
and scream the joy of our love
into the blaze of death
and burn like angels
down through the stars
past all the suns
to the world's beginning again.
--from Earth Apples: Collected Poems, by Edward Abbey

Otay, if you need to see the rest of what's gone before us heretofore on The Flames, that's allright, mon. There's been lost of good music posted.

Speaking for those who have posted "their music," feel free to make it part of "your music." Then it will be "our music."

We Flames are die-hard afficianandos of la musica.

"Her death was not her life." A mantra for MFM, who has lately been too much absorbed by health problems leading to grim thoughts of angels, demons, coughins, and cures and the Liszt could go on.

If Mayweather can adjust to the speed, he should cruise to a victory from the fourth round. His in-ring IQ is far superior to Pacquiao's, as is his poise and stamina

I was wondering how they measure this. How highly correlated is it with "out-of-ring" IQ?

Posing could be determined I suppose through forensic photographic evidence. Stamina, let's not go there.

By his hat you will recognize him. As of Friday, Mayweather was just a 20-57 favorite, per Odds Shark.

Except to say that it sounds like he's gonna get put through the ringer.
Sandler could maybe dole out the HzO for Mayweather.

Speaking of May weather, do you think Paquaio will be raining punches on his opponent? Those are terrible odds you mentioned.

I won't be watching. I'll be over there at Ronnie Moe's gym watching him duke it out with the girls.
He uses only his hands and his feet. No head butts allowed, this isn't MMA.
For good coordination and foot speed, the rope's the ticket. It also helps build stamina.
I'll bet T Hocking will be watching the fight. He's our big sports authority/fan/thread-master.

No, I won't watch the fight. I can rely on Tad for the blow-by-blow.

You should get a color man/person/woman to help call the fight, Tad.

Have fun. That's what it's all a bout.

The three boyz in the family were all paperboys. Two went on to become box boys and attorneys. The third one never did and is now all that remains and is merely famous long ago.

whoot whoot ! I was able to climb, ground up - on sight - old school: three placements,In 148 feet. ( I was without any tools of any kind Not even a nut pick )
(Darn-it I did not bring the pinz n' hammer) wait that is after this at the startNice packs?Any one ever use the mom-jeans porta-sack?

my old friend who now says he would prefer to be called "Blind Lemon Jim"
Here is the start This I usually post only if there is nothing elseOr asz well there he is in the treesI am really trying, the pics are what they are and I am glad to have them,
here this is pulling through to the middle of the crux: to a stance only ten feet from the top, maybe it will clean up? ( The pictures? probably not, and the route, yeah it has a death flake that I left and some hollow sounding rock . . . )
the Bulging white outside corner, covered in Lichen leads out of the corner, the moves to the crux top-out - Bullit Hard Pudding Stone conglomerate a number 1 hex and a opposing number 4 stopper, at the lip, stand into the bushes and brambles, Watch out for the indigenous Bottle plants, they grow like that, right on the edge. . .

thanx ff - even NASA is looking for The Flames (however, even if you find them, you can never go home again)

Every night, a network of NASA all-sky cameras scans the skies above the United States for meteoritic fireballs. Automated software maintained by NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office calculates their orbits, velocity, penetration depth in Earth's atmosphere and many other characteristics. Daily results are presented here on Spaceweather.com.

here to; this Tagging crap.

I think 'here', with the tagging issue, is almost everywhere. Even Montana. So, someone tell me why this is not a good idea: where we see tagging, we could leave invitations around the area, inviting people to climbing classes around that spot, or close by as possible. Maybe, since they like rock, it would be good to teach these kids to climb?

Because I don't think real climbers would tag anything: we are all slightly aesthetically enthralled with rock, too much so to paint it.

What do you think of this idea? Is it something that has been tried? How did it work?
Thank you,
feralfae
