HOT AIR: It’s worth pointing out that one of the people pledging money to Assange’s bail efforts was none other than Michael Moore himself. Schadenfreude-tastic!

SU&P, That is a searing observation that goes right to the heart of what Michael Moore showed about the lies of the Gov't.

INSTAPUNDIT:
WHAT COULD GO WRONG? U.N. Plans Internet Regulation. Apparently, a lot of people who were embarrassed by WikiLeaks want to make sure nothing like that can happen again. But don’t worry: “The Brazilian delegate stressed, however, that this should not be seen as a call for a ‘takeover’ of the internet.” Well, with free-speech stalwarts like China and Saudi Arabia involved in the push, who’d worry about that?

If we did not spend so foolishly, we would not need so much money.

LEB, this is so true. However, I'll bet we have different definitions of what it means to spend foolishly. I, for example, think we spend way too much on the military sector (and that includes the Enormous "black budget', of which Congress has no control.)

Think of where our deficit would be if we cut 50% of the military's budget. It makes what you're talking about look like the peanut skins left at the bottom of bag after you've finished eating all the peanuts.

DADT...a historic vote. Obama wins again. The man has done more good for this country in two years than Bush did eight.

**Read and weep you dip sh#t republicans!!

Enacted cuts in spending

Nominated two Supreme Court Justices

Passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Expanded eligibility for State Children's Health Insurance Fund

Signed Public land reform legislation

Passed a credit card reform law, added restrictions on interest rate increases and fees, and restricted the marketing of credit cards to college students: On May 21, 2009, Obama signed into law a bill providing what USA Today called the "most sweeping changes to the credit card industry in 40 years."

Reversed the previous administration's secretive policies with transparency: The Washington Post reported that moves by the Obama administration to improve government transparency "included a ban on lobbyist gifts; restrictions on the hiring of lobbyists; publication of White House visitor logs and other records; and a move to bar lobbyists from serving on advisory boards." A report by Common Cause, Democracy 21, the League of Women Voters, and U.S. PIRG stated that "The cumulative effect of the Administration's actions has been to adopt the strongest and most comprehensive lobbying, ethics and transparency rules and policies ever established by an Administration to govern its own activities."

Signed landmark national service expansion legislation

Passed healthcare reform bill: The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that this legislation will reduce the federal deficit by $143 billion over the next 10 years and by some $1.2 trillion over the following decade. Passage of the bill represents the biggest change in domestic policy since the enactment of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965, says Sara Rosenbaum, who chairs the department of health policy at George Washington University. "We have now fundamentally transformed American society," she says. "We have gone from assuming many people will not have insurance to expecting that people will have insurance."

Passed legislation to curb greenhouse gases and improve the environment

Ended the Iraq War

Strengthened the nuclear non-proliferation agreement

Improved our international standing

Passed Financial Industry Reform

Eased restrictions on stem cell research

Passed of Tobacco regulation Act

Implemented education reforms

Passsed the Stimulus Bill:

Bob D'A, hold on a minute there, I'm looking for my list of what Bush did.

Hey LEB, can you help?

LEB, I told you we'd disagree about foolish spending.

"I am thinking that it is better to have good defense and never need to use it than not have it when the need arises."

Yes mommy. Now can you tell me the story again about how we attacked Iraq?
(I like the part about Shock and Awe the best.)

Like a football team, our military has both offensive and defensive "teams." I'm glad you agree that we need only the defensive part of the military. We could save a lot by cutting the offense. (And BTW, I think we already have that in spades with all our atomic warheads).

Yes LEB. That is why I said a few posts ago that we would not agree on what is foolish spending. I'm glad it's finally sinking in.

Now, you're helping me with that list of Bush accomplishment, right?

LEB, I'm not sure, but I think that might be a cop-out. You see, just above, we have a list of what Obama has done. In two years. And, I think the list is missing a very important success, the saving of GM (whoa, talk about saving some jobs in an important US industry!).

[And Hey, wasn't it the Republicans who wanted to obstruct his bailing out of GM?]

Now, think back...Bush I, Bush II. That's 16 years just there. Surely you can come up with even a couple of "wins," no?

Talk about harm, LEB. Let's talk about it, like on the thousands of posts in this thread that address the actual harm that has befallen us on behalf of the policies of the GOP.

Now again, what has your party done for us?

LEB, if you're still here:

Above you said "One has nothing really to do with the other. A strong military for purposes of defense does not necessitate that it be misused any more than gun ownership mandates that one abuse firearms."

I'm looking at this, and I think I'm getting jist of what you're getting at. It's OK to have an strong military because it's not the gun that kills, it's the owner (I'm assuming that you're equating misusing the military with the owner of a firearm "abuse" the firearm).

But the problem is, we can't control how those in power use (or abuse) their military power. Just like the Republicans, who keep starting all these wars. We cannot trust how they are going to use them (you know, preemptive attacks like what happened in Iraq)... Do you get my point?

You see, because we have people like those in the GOP, we shouldn't have such a strong military. You wouldn't want to give machine guns to gangsters, would you?

LEB, something concrete please.

Oh, I get it. You can't do it!

You can't find anything concrete and positive that your little team has done. How cute.

Fatty, are you saying that if GM went BK, that the bond holders would have gotten out OK? Why/how is that. When company stock that I hold goes down, I loose all my money. What am I doing wrong?

"I do believe that blocking the liberal madness (nothing personal, please understand) is very concrete."

LEB, if you believe that getting nothing to happen is a concrete thing that your presidents have done, then all the power to you. But, please take a close look at your statement and see how shallow that is.

Certainly the GOP is now blocking MANY things. Most recently, they blocked help for 911 responders. And, just to show how well they are at blocking things, they even block the things that they themselves were for before Obama took office.

Please don't take this personally, but you are a sad sack.

OK, I get your point.

I guess I'm unsure of why there is Too Bit To Fail then. It seems a reboot would be the best for any industry who's leaders can't be effective at running their companies. Sure, massive financial fallout, but at least the riff-raff is cleaned out.
