Jeff, seriously, thank you for your concern.

You are always so KIND to me.

Actually, I am feeling a lot better.

I am on a three day patch that releases a synthetic morphine called Fentenyl.

As you can see, I am "drug addled", a "drug addict" and just a despicable low life.

People with chronic pain should be mocked and ridiculed. They are pieces of sh#t.

Sorry Rox,

These are level II narcotics.

Even my own pharmacy can't accept a fax on this from my doctor.

I have to go in person with ID to my doc every 30 days to pick up the prescription.

This is serious stuff, but it is helping, a lot.

You want higher taxes to pay for silly 'Stimulus Bills'???? So you want worthless programs and charge them to the taxpayer?

How about letting people decide how to spend their money?

Thanks for that, Jeff.

Yes, I AM irrational because of the pain medication.

Just terrible, so irrational. Been irrational for eight years now.

Sorry good buddy, you are just going to have to man up and resign yourself

that everything I say will continue to be irrational.

There is no hope for me.

Sad.

Hasn't our current economy shown how trickle-down economics works so very well?

Indeed, that is why we need those cuts for the wealthy. It works!

Steve and norton,

I hope both of you are feeling better soon. My wife deals with chronic pain patients, and sees first-hand the frustrations that go with pain whose source remains elusive.

bookworm,

Thanks for the link to the Virginia v. Sibelius District Court opinion. That link saves 8 cents per page -- for 42 pages -- that I would have spent downloading the opinion from the court's website.

I can't agree, though, that it's anything more than the beginning of the appeals. Other courts have dismissed similar claims, and the ultimate resolution court go either way, IMHO.

I've only had time to skim through the opinion, but it contains a good discussion of the relevant arguments and authorities. I can't help but thinking, though, that the commerce clause -- and federal powers generally -- has such far-reaching implications already that opponents of the Act still face an uphill fight.

My favorite illustration of the reach of federal power is in California v. Arizona. Among other things, the court had to decide whether the Colorado River constituted a "navigable stream" for purposes of applying federal law and policy. The Special Master's opinion defined a "navigable stream" for the purposes of invoking federal power as one "with enough water to float a Supreme Court opinion." That definition has never been set aside!

bluering, you want to reduce the deficit or not?

Robert Reich:
The deal the President struck with Republican leaders is an abomination.

It will cost $900 billion over the next two years — larger than the bailout of Wall Street, GM, and Chrysler
put together, larger than the stimulus package, larger than anything that’s come out of Washington in years.

It makes a mockery of deficit reduction. Worse, the lion’s share of that $900 billion will go to the very rich.
Families with incomes of over $1 million will reap an average of about $70,000, while middle-class families
earning $50,000 a year will get an average of around $1,500. In addition, the deal just about eviscerates the
estate tax — yanking the exemption up to $5 million per person and a maximum rate of 35 percent.

And for what?

Wealthy families won’t spend nearly as large a share of what they get out of this deal as will middle-class
and working-class families, so it doesn’t do much to stimulate the economy.

The deal further concentrates income and wealth in America — when it’s already more concentrated
than at any time in the last 80 years.

Fatty said-

I can't help it if so many Americans live in "FantasyLand". The citizens of Greece and Ireland were living in FantasyLand for many years, then it collapsed.

Again, your lack of realism is astounding. Greece and Ireland had socialist fantasylands. It is pretty obvious from the crash of the 2 massive bubbles in the last 11 years that ours is a capitalist fantasyland. The Greek felt entitled to their government dole. The Americans feel entitled to their lack of government oversight. Both turned out to be disastrous. The problem is that you are still living the American Fantasy, hoping to convince people that ours is actually the Greek Fantasy so that you can postpone reality a little longer.

Patrick M. did NOT advocate "phasing out" SS and Medicare.

He DID advocate an aggressive "means testing" of both programs.

He felt that those Americans with very high incomes and/or large liquid assets

should NOT "qualify" to be on those government programs.

Jeff, please, I beg of you, fact check yourself BEFORE you make statements.

It is irresponsible to keep on saying things that are not true.

It shows a lack of critical thinking and a dangerous laziness.

Clean up your act, pull the butt plug out NOW.

Jeff, yes I am aware of his comments about privatizing "some" SS.

That is not the same as "phasing" out the safety net that it offers.

And Jeff? Try to understand that one "liberal" twenty damn years ago making

such a statement in NO way justifies the concept of "ending" SS and Medicare.

Jeff, are you flip flopping AGAIN?

It was YOU who said on thread a number of times that you had no problem with
SS and Medicare as long as they did not add significantly to the debt.

I agree on this. And they do not add to the debt.

Not right now. SS will not turn negative until 2027 and Medicare
not for another seven years.

And this is WITHOUT any tinkering, means tested, reduction of SOME benefits.

Clearly, the idea of tying SS to the stock market (privatizing) is an

idea that by far most Americans reject outright. They do NOT want their

retirement to based, in ANY manner, on the ups and down of the stock market.

That concept was put in the ground when the market dropped over 7000 DOW

points in Bush's last year in office.

bluering you couldn't be more clueless on this issue. I've laid it out for incredibly plainly over and over again. The bill that your Great Republican Party is excitedly voting for (and that you are emphatically defending, apparently) borrows money to both lower taxes AND pay for "worthless programs." And since we are borrowing the money for both the tax cuts AND the spending programs, the taxpayer gets the bill anyway! WITH INTEREST! And this is all being done by the people you said were going to save us! And I don't hear a shred of protest from the Tea Party!

Seriously, why aren't you burning down Mitch McConnell's house right now? You either don't have a clue what you're talking about or you're a huge hypocrite. Pick one.

How about letting people decide how to spend their money?

How about you stop repeating propaganda catchphrases from the Bush era?

Liberals take such joy in hurting people and become so angry when
they fail. They've feel seriously bitch slapped by the Republicans
who stopped them from raising taxes. The profanity echoing in the
Democratic offices goes on.

Speaker Nancy fears there is more coming and is acting a bit psychotic; unable to answer simple questions.
