In August 1971, Krogh and Young met with G. Gordon Liddy and E. Howard Hunt in a basement office in the Old Executive Office Building. Hunt and Liddy recommended a "covert operation" to get a "mother lode" of information about Ellsberg's mental state in order to discredit him. Krogh and Young sent a memo to Ehrlichman seeking his approval for a "covert operation to be undertaken to examine all of the medical files still held by Ellsberg’s psychiatrist." Ehrlichman approved under the condition that it be "done under your assurance that it is not traceable."
On September 3, 1971, the burglary of Lewis Fielding's office — titled "Hunt/Liddy Special Project No. 1" in Ehrlichman's notes — was carried out by Hunt, Liddy and CIA officers Eugenio Martinez, Felipe de Diego and Bernard Barker. The "Plumbers" failed to find Ellsberg's file. Hunt and Liddy subsequently planned to break into Fielding's home, but Ehrlichman did not approve the second burglary.
The break-in was not known to Ellsberg or to the public until it came to light during Ellsberg and Russo's trial in April 1973.

Wow you really ARE out of touch. Do you realize that the poverty line for a family of FOUR is $19,000? In 2006 the adjusted for inflation median income for a FAMILY was $50,233. That means half the families in the country make more than that and half make LESS. Your family makes TRIPLE the national median. Obviously you aren't rolling in your own private jet, but you aren't stressing your next mortgage payment and have the option of socking away plenty of money for retirement and emergencies. That's a lot harder to do on $50k a year, especially if you have kids.

OBAMA AS SYBIL. ONE DAY HE IS BASHING LOWER TAXES, AND THE NEXT DAY (YESTERDAY) HE SAYS THIS:
"Every economist I have talked to or read over the last couple of days acknowledges that this agreement would boost economic growth in the coming years and has the potential to create millions of jobs," Obama continued. "The average American family will start 2011 knowing that there will be more money to pay the bills each month, more money to pay for tuition, more money to raise their children," he said. "But if this framework fails, the reverse is true. Americans will see it in smaller paychecks that will have the effect of fewer jobs."

Let's be straight about something. Republicans are rejoicing about a bill that will SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE NATIONAL DEBT solely because it allows for tax cuts for those making more than $250k/year. That's it. That's the major coup. Actions are clearly speaking a lot louder than words here.

Crystal ball economics.
Two of the largest tax cuts in US history (under JFK and Reagan) resulted in increases in Federal tax reciepts. The Reagan years still saw a deficit due to spending increases but Federal tax reciepts went up.
