Declaring a NE (even if it fails in court) gives political cover to the GOP by averting a shutdown, and allows Trump to show his base that he's making good on his promise. Even if the NE gets tossed out of court, he looks good to his base for trying.

Except he will take money from the defense budget to fund the wall. Not sure his base will like it.

President Donald Trump gained four pounds over the last year, according to a new assessment from his doctor, a weight increase that makes him technically obese.

But Trump's doctor, Sean Conley, nonetheless determined that the president "remains in very good health overall" in a memorandum released by the White House on Thursday.

Conley recorded Trump's height as 6'3" and his weight as 243 pounds. Last year, the president clocked in at 239 pounds, according to an assessment by his former doctor, Ronny Jackson.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that a body mass index of 30.0 or higher falls into the obese range. Based on his current height and weight, Trump's body mass index is 30.4, putting him across the obesity threshold. Obese people are at increased risk of a slew of health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the president's weight.

Heart disease...stroke...

President Donald Trump on Friday declared a state of emergency on the southern border and immediately direct $8 billion to construct or repair as many as 234 miles of a border barrier.

The move — which Trump acknowledged is sure to invite vigorous legal challenges from activists and government officials — comes after Trump failed to get the $5.7 billion he was seeking from lawmakers. Instead, Trump agreed to sign a congressional funding deal that included just $1.375 for border security, an amount he claimed as a victory but said was still “not enough.”

In addition to the funds Congress has appropriated, the White House will seek to redirect $3.6 billion from a military construction fund, $600 million from a Treasury Department drug forfeiture fund and $2.5 billion from a Pentagon drug prevention program, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters Friday.

This was Ann Coulter's response to Trump's signing of the bill, and declaration of a NE:

"No, the goal of a national emergency is for Trump to scam the stupidest people in his base for 2 more years," she tweeted early Friday morning. "The goal is to get Trump's stupidest voters to say "HE'S FIGHTING!" No he's not. If he signs this bill, it's over."

Well, you gotta give her credit for knowing a lot of Trump's supporters truly are stupid.

There's a far greater likelihood that the Trump administration would accomplish any of those first three GND goals than their supporters would ever succeed in the last.

That's been my strategy since November 2016...stick with the print/text version.

Up until the election, listening to him was like watching a pathetic reality TV show- mildly entertaining. The election brought about the sickening realization that a massive part of this country believes the world is a 'reality' TV show. That's when I pretty much tuned out all TV media sources.

President Donald Trump claimed Friday that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to broker peace between North and South Korea.

Trump said Abe showed the president “the most beautiful five-page letter” that he sent to the Norwegian committee that awards the prestigious diplomatic prize each year.

“He had rocket ships, and he had missiles flying over Japan, and they had alarms going off, you know that,” Trump said of Abe, speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday. “Now all of a sudden, they feel good. They feel safe. I did that.”

The Japanese embassy in Washington did not immediately return an email seeking confirmation that Abe had, in fact, submitted Trump's name for the peace prize.

Jeebus Cripes, this guy is an unbelievable whiney-mouth loser. If he had a shred of political understanding, he never would have gone down this losing road in the first place. And when he did...and lost bigly...he just turns into a crybaby with his panties twisted.

I can understand how some would support some of the policy directions he's taken as POTUS, but anyone who believes he's been a respectable leader has their head so far up their ass they don't deserve to be an American.
