As Christian, white male dominance slips away, the fear and loathing of those in the lower social strata is at a crescendo. Their fervor is stoked by like minded corporatist and wannabe oligarchs through multiple media platforms.
Instead of quietly accepting a diminished yet co-equal role in society, Trump is their nihilistic supernova. Archie Bunker lost his job and grabbed a gun.

Know Me by My Name
Some people thinks it’s lame
But you’ll know me by my name
I’m Gilligan, your president
I’ll always be the same
So know me by my name

I agree it can happen again and democrats shouldn't assume that angry out-of-touch with reality populists can only come from the right.

The premise of the OP is that Trump is the bull. Maybe Trump is the guy in tight pants who is going to kill the bull, after torturing it in a spectacular fashion for a while.
The role of the bull is being played by the dignity of American democracy.

I think the "it can happen again" idea springs from a denial that the election was manipulated.
Had one simple rule which is implemented in "election messaging" for other media been in place with the internet messaging - that the payer of the message is known and shown - the manipulation campaign would have been much less successful.
Yes, we were duped. But I do believe a good number of GOP pols were kind of stuck, once DT became nominee. I mean - in early 2016 - would any of us have thought that it was possible that much of our social media experience was going to be manipulated?
If the angry white males would have actually known that there were NOT a hundred more just like them within a few miles, would they have been THAT willing to foment the hate?
Honestly - much as I rely on the internet, I really feel that it is a dangerous thing. I am just so tired..... I don't trust what I see anymore- and yes, it has absolutely occurred to me that all along Trump might actually be being maligned. I don't THINK that's the case, but I just don't know what to believe is truth anymore, when it comes to media. Relying on common sense, when we are seeing an all out spy epic saga before our eyes - is terrifying to me. And I have ALWAYS been able to trust my instincts.

exactly, Econ
Republican politicians and their voters say they hate "big government"
oh so intrusive big government is in the private lives of Americans they say
except of course when Republicans want to pass sweeping Federal laws flat out ordering every woman in the country to give birth to babies they do not want
AMNESIA - go back to election day of 2007, Obama V McCain
the US is in the grips of a Recession, 700,000 job losses reported a month
10 million Americans have lost their jobs
and yet the faithful came out, unashamed, and voted, again, to continue the same policies that lead to the Recession, they voted for John McCain
We are living, real time, in the movie Idiocracy

Dangerous, but still just a distraction, yes....
What surprises me most, is that few Americans are able to see how destructive the system is. Few Americans are able to see beyond the individual. This blindness is stunning...

"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias wherein people of low ability suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority derives from the metacognitive inability of low-ability persons to recognize their own ineptitude; without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence.
Conversely, highly competent individuals may erroneously assume that tasks easy for them to perform are also easy for other people to perform, or that other people will have a similar understanding of subjects that they themselves are well-versed in.
As described by social psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger, the cognitive bias of illusory superiority results from an internal illusion in people of low ability and from an external misperception in people of high ability; that is, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

As far as I can tell, there are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who know that Trump is a toxic nightmare for our country--and those who will know it soon enough.

Word in the Twittersphere is there is likely to be some big indictments tomorrow... I guess we'll see.
They're tweeting about the fact that Guccifer 2.0, having been proven to actually have been a high-level Russian Intelligence Officer(and not the amatuer hacker which he was portrayed to be), and that some of Trump campaigners accepted information from him.
Oh dear, did Ms Rachael and Mr Lemon and Herr O'Donnell get all y'all stirred up about fake again? Ever feel like you're just being played?? :-0
