NBC News reported this tonight.

PHILLIPS STATION, Calif. (AP) - Clambering through a snowy meadow with drifts up to the tree branches, California's water managers measured the state's vital Sierra Nevada snowpack Thursday at a drought-busting and welcome 173 percent of average.

Runoff from the overall Sierra snowpack, which provides arid California with a third of its water in a good year, stood at the highest level since 1995 for this point in the year, California's Department of Water Resources said.

No doubt, that water & more won't be enough.

I'm a cynical kinda person...

I can hear the real state development and irrigation infrastructure permits being stamped and printed as we speak.

I also can't wait to see the spring melt!!!!

Cheers

I was in J Tree for the deluge 2 weeks ago. There were 2 days it seemed like June in the BC mountains.
Even had snow one day and I heard it snowed in Palm Springs.
Should be a good spring for desert flowers

It's looking like one of those western winters, where many of the folks who moved to scenic mountain towns during drought years, will be moving back to the lowlands, after a winter of more snow & snow-related suffering than they could ever have imagined.

In central Idaho, it is currently the snowiest winter since the mid-1990's, with more on the way from your current storm systems.

Tad, I hope you have your kayaks ready. Dry here, 150 miles SE, so far.

Seen any fish swim by your windows yet-kind of an aquarium in reverse ?

where many of the folks who moved to scenic mountain towns during drought years...

Yeah, it's like the late 80's in Oregon when we had just a couple of months of rain for a few years and everyone moved here. In the early 90's when it went back to being normal Oregon they all left.

Just not getting hit here, 20 miles NE of Reno. Lucky I guess.
