I notice that Fritz mentioned it above, but I'm surprised at my self by how happy Kaitlyn Farrington's Halfpipe Gold Medal makes me. You wouldn't have known she was even in the competition from the commentators beforehand, and the whole celebrity/marketing scene around Hannah Teter and Torah Bright irritates me no end.

I liked Mancuso's reaction (overjoyed) to getting bronze in the combined, but the women's downhill was really cool with that tie between a relative unknown(to me) and a superstar. Too bad neither was Austrian. So far, I haven't seen too many Austrians on the podia, is that an accurate impression?

Hey, but our sisters to the north are doing well, in that obscure sport in an ice rink with nets and sticks, what's it called?

w.r.t. Pyro's above. :-(

Vladimir Putin (Putinator) should make a guest appearance run down the Ski Jump.

The big one (Ski-flying) competition jump hill.

That will definitely help boost his Olympic planing events and world leader ratings :-)

The women's downhill yesterday was amazing. That and the mogul competition have really been the only events I've gone out of my way to watch. The downhill finish couldn't have been better scripted!

The hype and marketing just seems too much to me to stomach most of the time. Especially all the time they're spent on snowboarding.

I know I'm an old fart, But what is with the judgeing? Did I miss something? What happened to all the judges from different countries scoring and then they would throw out the high and low one? when did they change this? Kind of liked watching the Russian and American judges low-balling each others atheletes. I must have fell asleep or something. Who is doing the judgeing?...I'll go take my nap now so I can stay awake until at least 10:00pm....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

SOCHI, Russia — On a warm slope above the Black Sea, America's colors blazed with new definition.
Red, white and blue became Joss, Gus and Nick.
In the perfect sweep for an evolving Winter Olympics and the ever-changing American athletes who twist through them, Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper finished first, second and third, respectively, in the inaugural men's slopestyle skiing competition Thursday.

Christensen skied with a photo of his late father tucked into his suit. Kenworthy skied for the future of five stray Russian dogs. Goepper skied for all those folks back on his boyhood slopes of … southern Indiana?

Kenworthy, also 22, found his awesome earlier in these Olympics when he rounded up a stray female dog and her four puppies before Russian authorities could capture and possibly exterminate them.

"I said to someone, 'I just want to leave with a medal and some puppies,''' he said.

Kenworthy, My kind of hero!!!!

Looks like they are starting the downhill portion of the mens combined an hour earlier than the previous 3 downhill competitions.

Really hope this helps level the playing field. Hard to say.. that lower mountain just seems too warm in the last few races.

Better hope so, the US men drew positions 22, 23, 24 and 28

I'd say they are screwed. Hope I'm wrong.

More TV time was devoted to one skater quitting than they gave to the entire mens' Downhill ( which used to be the premier Olympic event ).

The Olympics used to be all about Faster, Higher, Stronger.

I guess Lamer, Older, Weaker draws more of the viewers NBC is shooting for - viewers who are not sports fans.

Combined course is in terrible shape..

Dull them edges men and find some special skis..softer a bit

The course conditions are a cruel joke..

Might as well roll the dice for positions.. be about as fair.

American figure skater, Jeremy Abbott, took a hard painful demoralizing fall in the beginning of his short program.
The crowd with their applause rallied him to get up and finish ---which he did in great style and excellent form.
Showed heart on his part ---and it showed the largely Russian crowd in a real good light.
One thing about Rooskies, they love gritty perseverance and heart. Their history as a country bares that out, despite all the bad stuff.

That performance with that crowd support is going to stick with him longer than a medal would!

It will become the basis for family lore; "when uncle Jeremy wiped out in the Olympics , he got back up and the crowd clapped him through his routine!"

Yes, NBC's nightly coverage is prepackaged for middle America just like McDonalds prepackages so called food for Americans. Yet your complaints about it are getting tiresome. You could have watched the entire mens downhill on NBCSports Network, or CBC, or BBC or on your computer or ......
