So Jody, you say
....he is going soft on his Obummercare repeal....

I don't understand all this hate directed towards others. On a personal level, the repeal of the ACA will deprive my brother of expensive drugs that preserve his life, Neither he nor I can afford to pay for them. Is this really what you want, for my brother to die? Because that will be a consequence.

Edited to add: And we should talk about how well the U.S. health system, by far the most expensive in the world as a percentage of GD (17.1%), actually works. A single example with data from the CIA https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2091rank.html. Infant mortality in the United States (5.80 deaths/1000 births) is greater than Bosnia (5.60), Slovakia (5.20), Cuba (4.50), Estonia (3.80) etc. etc. etc., not even to mention England, France, Germany, Ireland, and many other countries. Yes, I know infant mortality isn't the only measure of health care but pretty much all other measures replicate the data.

And yet here we are, with republicans wanting to defund planned parenthood, get rid of Medicaid, remove health insurance for 20 million Americans.

Here are health care costs as % of GDP for the countries mentioned above from http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.XPD.TOTL.ZS:

United States 17.1%
Bosnia 9.6%
Slovakia 8.1%
Cuba 11.1%
Estonia 6.4%
Canada 10.4% (included as they are much maligned)
Germany 11.3% (as another 1st world example)

In fact, the next closest countries to the US are the Marshall Islands (17.1%), Micronesia (13.7%), then France (11.5%), Germany (11.3%), and Austria (11.2%).

Yeah, the greatest health system in the world my ass. In the 35 to 44 year old range, medical costs caused 28.9% of bankruptcy in 2013 (http://www.cnbc.com/id/100840148). It's way past time the United States joined the rest of the world and instituted universal health care. I'm amazed large corporations aren't pushing for this, as it would be a huge cost saver for them.

Edited to add: And let's not even get started on drug costs ...........

As an aside, give serious consideration to researching obtaining them from Canada or Mexico, assuming the President does not cut this off.

Most physicians will happily provide the needed prescriptions.

However, you can certainly investigate this at this point.

As for how you can say this, so far Repubs agree on no "replace" plan, only on "revoke".

@ TGT2 asks
How did he get them before the ACA?

Ever consider things might crop up? His health issues are private, so I won't expand on that answer. Point is, people will die when the ACA is repealed; here are your 'death panels' the republicans talked about as the ACA was being passed - they are them. It's way past time for the US to enter the first world.

Edited to add: Jody, the republicans insisted that Medicare not be able to negotiate drug prices, despite Medicare being the largest customer. Free enterprise my ass.

I agree with Jody on government taking money from Americans and giving to other Americans

a good example is Social Security

started in the depth of the 1930s great depression when people were literally starving to death,
Big Government decided it "knew better" and ordered that a brand new tax on the American workers should be taken out of their paychecks, Social Security

and you know what Big Government did with that money?

they gave it away, flat out gave it to supposedly "old" people, pure Communism

Did those workers get anything back in exchange? NO, they worked and supported people
who were too lazy to work for themselves

take me for example, my wife and I chose to not have children, but a huge chunk of the thousands of dollars a year we pay in city, county, state property taxes goes to pay for the
"schools" of those irresponsible other people's children, NOT FAIR TO ME

so, I'm with you, bro - by the way I also did not ask to pay into another big government program, Medicare, health insurance for those over 65, no one should have to pay for other people's healthcare because they made the choice to not save and spent frivolously instead of putting money away to pay for their own healthcare when they got older

there is just SO many, many ways that I am victimized by government I could write a book

Norton, do I detect a tiny bit of sarcasm? The role of government, IMHO, is to improve the lives of its citizens. Jody, we are not all islands in an ocean, each independent, we are inter-related and interdependent and can help each other. The weird Randian distopian survival of the fittest BS floating around America today is disturbing, to say the least.

Edited to add 'Randian'

Like TGT, I long for the America of the Old Days when Father Knows Best was on TV

when men were men and women appreciated it

when blacks knew their place and kept their mouths shut about "civil rights" crap talk

yep, us old, white, male racists gotta stick together

cause our America is under attack and things are changing too damn fast for their own good

The fact is we will swing back to covering folks. It is inevitable.

Why?

Moral outrage will return. We live in the richest nation in the world. So if we nuked medicad, medicare and SSA and phased it in starting with those turning 18 this year it would only last 50 years. Once enough folks died in the gutter due to first losing the ability to hold a job, then being unable to afford medicine or food. Many families would end up with sick grandpa/grandma showing up at their doorstep after the repo man took their house, dragging down even responsible households.

Dead old people in the gutter is a massive waste. Many people will contract illnesses that will exceed their lifetime earning potential. Leaving these people to suffer and die in gutters of lavishly rich country to teach them a lesson, or whatever moral argument the conservatards are claiming won't fly. Safety nets will be demanded, and rightly so.

Since pensions were gutted in the wake of union busting we have seen the stagnant wages, bad job security, and shitty financial education result in horrifyingly low retirement savings. I got laughed at for arguing 10% saving rate was inadequate and the target should be 20-30% (I am saving 40%). Even with a great nest egg you need good insurance or one major illness can wipe you out. It is impractical apfor everyone to save millions just in case, especially young folks who have low wages, high costs, and very few years to save. Should we just turn our backs on everyone with bad luck because they didn't get cushy medical coverage and pension from being a LEO pig?

I just happily paid my state and federal taxes and have ZERO problems with some of it being used to help those in need...

But then I'm not a...

"FAKE Christian"...

Just a simple, AGNOSTIC, LIBTARD, that CARES...

Locker...yur a bigoted azzhole. You got a BIG problem with people who practice 'certain' religions. Your statements have been consistent. You are one of the (tiny)leaders of the STopo Hate Group.

A weak-assed loon group no doubt

Perhaps you should leave the desert and glue behind to 'find' life?...before its too late

LOL! And they had the same chance at the same job. It is all "bad luck" huh? Never bad CHOICES?

Jody, while it is true that some people are just f*#kups, and some make bad choices, many are trying hard and failing.

Put it this way: suppose you had a child who, whether because of genetics, or accident, or disease wound up retarded. If that child can't get the same job as my kid, who didn't suffer that same disease, needs help what do you think should be done? Boot him to the curb and let him die?

Not everyone is as bright as you. Not everyone was born into a caring family like you were. Not everyone reached adulthood free of disease and accident as you did.

Maybe we should just elect you the Determinator, and send you around to shoot everyone who isn't as rich as you are?

Or maybe you should go back to the bible and think this whole thing through one more time.

Jody, do you really believe the myth that if everyone tried hard they would get a great job with benefits and live a long and prosperous life? Do you ever think about and appreciate how much of your wonderful life was carried on the backs of people earning little money with no benefits.
