Especially those who aren't christians, or have other traditions?
Obviously I am standing firmly in the 'open it when it arrives' camp. MH you had mentioned that you celebrate the solstice. I am not familiar with the tradition but wouldn't that allow you to open on the 21st?

Thanks ekat and skully. You are the BEST. I don't have time to cook. I just want the gift to be perfect......I did buy an awesome beanie but would like to be more personal. What if the color is not good or it doesn't fit.
Please help me to be a really good super Santa.
I was prepared to give a guy gift. Have an awesome one, but got a gal. Oh lordy, oh lordy, need some inspiration. Been thinking since I got the name but nothing kicks.....

I just finished making mine. I may miss the mailing deadline doing the finishes, but it shouldn't matter as it's not going far.

Lynne, the fleece beanie is a good idea that everyone can use. There are all kinds of styles now too.
Merry Christmas!

My vote is don't 'tell' anybody you opened it until at least Christmas Eve.
Some sort of "don't ask, don't tell" tactic, apparently.

Mine is not in the mail yet...this weekend...shame on me, but since I hate to take responsibility I can say that the company sending it to me was late, because their supplier was delayed, because the parts for that supplier didn't come in time from China beccause the 50 cent an hour workers in China got snooty and slowed production because they wanted $0.55 an hour but the bosses were entrenched because Bain Capital needed to sell them for a profit because the Marriott Hotels wanted Romney on their Board of Directors. So there...it really is Romney's fault. Someone had to take this political....
Susan
Edit...I will mail it from Bozeman to mess up the giftee's head when they get it!

Santa's sleigh has been spotted over the skies of New Mexico! PocoLoco, better get out there and catch the loot that falls out of the sky!!!
Joyeux Noel!
And damn, the wrapping won't be perfect. Small things like being wrapped or having the price removed. I got caught up in making sure that it went out on time and shipped direct. The thought went into the decoration of the item rather than the gift wrapping.

Open when you get it!!! THat's my vote. I still remember the year my boss gave me home made kielbasa, and I put it under the tree for Christmas. You never know if a gift might spoil. OPEN IT UP NOW AND TELL US WHAT YOU GOT.
Hard to believe some of us are mature professionals.

As the organizer of this little event, I love seeing everyone debating and talking about the the inconsequential details involved, because it shows how much it means to everyone...
So here's a conundrum. When are the giftees supposed to open their gift, assuming that it arrives before December 25th?
As the guy who organized this, all I can say is: it doesn't matter!
As a normal person who isn't a part of this exchange (to me it doesn't feel right to participate when I am the one who organizes it) I have a quick allegory... My girlfriend can not stand having a gift in front of her and not open it. Something arrives for her and she wants to know what it is and will open it ASAP. To me that's perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with that.
On the opposite side is me, who will receive a gift and I will wait until the appointed time to open it, no matter how long that is. Last year I received a few gifts as the organizer (THANK YOU Zip and everyone who participated for making that happen!!!!) and they sat under my Christmas tree until Christmas before I opened them.
So when should you open the gift you received from this Secret Santa exchange? It is all up to you, there are no rules!
All that matters (to me) is that everyone enjoy the the spirit of the season and connect in some way with their fellow climbers.
Happy Holidays!!

On this very suckee day, I got my secret santa gift. It is so delightful to be transported to a magical, Christmasy place.
Should I open it?.....or should I save that joy for another day when I need some sunshine?

hey there say, melissa ,that is a neat way of seeing it...
sharing for the twelve days...
well, they COULD share a picture of the unopened box, if they like, too...
some of us did that, last year, that is fun too... and for the ones
that DID open, that was equally as fun....
dear seamstress... i just been reading about the 'bad' day :(
i am behind in the news...
find a quiet space when the memories of your conn. homeland feel well and then you will know it is time to open it... like a sign of prayers having moved over to the families of those in pain...
WELL now... me, i had been up all night doing little chores, i seem to work better then:
i JUST mailed my box off to the secret-santa-getter'er...
i can't pay much, so it went the SEVEN day way... it should get
there in time, though, i hope.. at least if it
gets 'slowed up'..
i WILL be able to say (and perhaps with a few others) not to worry
there are still some on the way, and MINE is one, :))
happy trails, in this venture before us all, from strider... :)
thank you strider...

hey there say, lolli, i just love this
as to your quote:
I love the internet. It's fantastic.
Without it, I would've never known of neither Secret Santa, nor any of you! There'd be no Supertopo.
In the old days, I could've called the post office to find out where my box is, but there'd be no recepient across the sea. :-)
:)
