"To the rest who'd have me banned or silenced??? "

It would be far more satisfying to see you silence yourself, bluering.

Infectious Obamasteria - similar to rabies, but quarantine is generally not necessary as the infection appears to mainly affect white males with confused and conflicted personas who are unable to stop identifying themselves as victims. The prognosis is typically terminal and, though resembling a form of fast-decline dementia, victims can persist in a semi-vegetative state for decades while only responding to proper Rovian stimuli every two to four years. It is the leading cause of the 'zombie voting' the right has now come to depend on.

Recently Lolli expressed something that really does need to be discussed calmly and dispassionately. She said developments in Europe during the 30's are still very fresh in European memory. And those developments prompt her not to be interested in buying a house in the US.

How we in the US are perceived abroad directly affects our ability to share this planet with other peoples. Any thoughts on this?

Those of us here inclined to froth at the mouth on any pretext might well spare us the drama and just say, "Yes, Lolli is right. Putting down roots in the US is not advisable."

EDIT:

Lolli was talking about events taking place during the 1930's.

Stannard, if Obama is not re-elected, the US would be a very good place to put down some roots.

Property values are good, low interest rates right now. I'd say 6-12 months out would be ideal.

If Obama is re-elected we will become Greece. We already are, just too big to fail.

If we are too big to fail then all is well since we won't fail. And if we are already Greece then no need to worry about becoming like Greece.

Does this mean you'll move to another country (i.e., putting down roots) when Obama is re-elected? I'm curious which one you'd move to Blue. I have no idea which one I'd go to.

edit: I'd like to go to a country where I can blend with inhabitants. Lots of birds would be nice. Warmer climate.

I can't help it, I feel sympathy for Bluering.

To me, life is all about informed decisions. It appears that Blue bases his beliefs on knee-jerk reactions and what he hears from mainstream right wing media sources.

There is a place for conservatives just like there is a place in the discussion for liberals.

What I don't get is the constant stream of vitriol.

Lighten up and engage in civil discourse rather than your current trend of name calling and divisive language.

Maybe then people will listen to you rather than laugh at your childish rants.

Just a heads up, bro.

The greatest forehead-slapping irony is that our economic & social condition could be precisely as it currently stands, and if there was a Repub in the WH, bluering's outlook would be 180 degrees optimistic.

I always thought this was the sentiment of the far left liberals when a republicon was in a race for office?

But then again I guess those republicons are not much different than those far left liberals... even better they're not that different than any self-interested animal..

I want things to be better too.
I want the world to run smoothly as I felt when I used to climb.
I would like things to run like any of the perfect climbing trips I've been a part of: Everyone had fun, everyone got to climb as much as they could, everybody paid the price for all their climbing (but it was worth it!) and all felt as they they had contributed to the whole of the experience for everyone and best of all everyone acquired memories that each could later share or relish in solitary contemplation.

"They" might have to start rounding up and putting people (like me) in camps just outside of town for me to want to escape. This is the only country I know. Free is the only way I know how to live.

Not to mention, the other way of looking at all this: I've lived through the oppressive times of the religious right during the '80's and now through the oppressive and far reaching sham of a president in the opening years of 2000's... Though I may not like life during the oppression I think I can live through another presidency no matter who it might be.

The right have not been able to abolish the constitution (as their actions seem to ultimately lead to) and they haven't yet turned everything over to business (as they seem to want to).
The left have not been able to make this a fair and just country (as they seem to want) and they haven't yet placed the country into a socialist regime (as the right complain them to be doing).

Hopefully there will be some resolve. Hopefully there can be an understanding that one group is no better than another, that the collective is better off when all are considered equal rather than some being less and others being more.... important.

Here's to the hope that all may come to know this kind of country and choose to live in it rather than fight and struggle everyday of their existence against it (not that there's anything bad about that, I mean there's a lot to be said about living a life of struggle against something)

Blew - Sorry for putting so many words in this non-rant type writing. I wish I could have used more obscene language but I didn't really need to right?

Would you really consider leaving the country if Obama were re-elected?

Would you really consider leaving the country if Obama were re-elected?

Without a doubt there are somewhere less than 300,000,000-2 people interested in an answer to this question, Blue. The two being Jingy and Barack.

The burden is now on you.

(Avoiding rants is always a good strategy.)

A rant allows others to pin you to a poster board like they would a butterfly.

Defense becomes impossible.

One becomes ignorable.

No.

The only other place I would consider moving to is Australia. Maybe New Zealand. But I like it here too much.

How did we get Here?

Same way you did.

Why is the debt so high?,

Didn't pay up in previous life

Why is the unemployment so High?

Karma for the previous two above .... :-)

How did we get Here?

Uncontrolled spending and the feeling that people are "entitled" to a house/mortgage.

Why is the debt so high?,

The housing market crashing, and waging war without properly funding it.

Why is the unemployement so High?

Illegal immigration and exporting many sectors of our economy abroad.
