It f*#king sucks, Philo. It's the same scene I've witnessed with my mother when I was 13, and my grandmother 6 years ago.
Thank you for the good vibes, man. Much appreciated, esp during the holidays.
Cancer sucks.
I did decide that my next tattoo will be our family name, "Martinez", along the length of my arm.
Phew.
Carry on, y'all.

Edit: When I say "Carry on"... get OUTDOORS! ;)

Leggs. Sorry for your loss. Cancer does suck. And it doesn't care. Hateful stuff.

Many thanks, Cosmic and CGirl.
She's not yet passed on, but will soon. I spoke to her this morning, and she still knows who I am. (phew)
I am a former professional, trained caregiver, and I went there to care for her. We have in-home hospice in place, and all family members have come to say their personal goodbyes. The morning I left, Dec. 23rd (I had a show to do last night, and am under contract to do so, so I left very reluctantly), Aunt Ruthie and I sang together a bit.
She is such an amazing woman, retired RN, not afraid of death, just wanting make sure she says her goodbyes. I come from a large family. Oh, and while I was there, I was informed I am Spanish French and Native American Indian. I always thought I was Mexican American, Native American Indian and French.
The things we learn.

edit: I am blessed, and thankful I got to care for her last week. (phewwww.)
Edit 12/27/2011 - Just received a call from California... My Aunt has approx 24-48 hours, as complete kidney failure has set in.
Many blessings to my Aunt, and others who too have lost their loved ones.

Transcendent photos, Leggs. i lost my father to cancer when he was just about the age I am now. Somehow we manaaged to make the times we had mean things. Like what you 're doing with your aunt.
The big c haunts this forum and the world at large. I like to think of it (and death) in a castaneda way, as being over our left shoulder always reminding us to make it all count.
conitnuity is what it's about, i'd have more to say, but gotta run;I'm hanging with two nieces,9 &2& 88 yr old mom (12 yr breast cancer survivor)

I couldn't agree more, Jaybro.
Peace to you and your family. I'm so sorry you lost your father. It's never easy, and somehow, we realize we've woken up for the past 20+ years, have laughed, cried, shared, discovered, lost, created, learned, and continued to survive, despite the absence of our loved ones.
