Actually, Rox is an expert on ALL subjects. I have yet to understand how this extraordinary individual with a commanding knowledge of so many important issues has been relegated to a life of marginal employment and excessive posting on this forum. In the end, I guess it doesn't matter. I just feel lucky to be able to bask in the glow of Rox's blindingly bright intellect and learn from such a well educated mind.

Over 99% of wolves on the planet are Grey Wolves. The romantic blurbs and one-sided articles proclaiming "The Return of the Grey Wolf" suggest a discrete and unique species is being reintroduced to its historical niche in the U.S. Rocky Mountains. Not so...

It would seem Chihuahuas are a unique breed of the domestic dog subspecies. They, as well as other domestic dogs, are also members of the Grey Wolf (Canis Lupus) species.

Subspecies classifications are important when considering eco-systems and habituation to particular biological communities. But when government dollars are lining pockets of silver tongued naturalists... any subspecies will work justa bout anywhere.

And should I ever mock Rokjox, please remind me of Oscar Wilde's words:

"Ridicule is the tribute paid to the genius by the mediocrities"

Incredible genetic diversity is being lost that we had developed through generations of actual true Conservation.

So wolves reduce genetic diversity?
How does this work?

Uh... Should read: "Killer woman shoots Grey Wolf."

Nothing in that story says it did anything but approach her. Would it have killed her? Maybe. But there's nothing about it snarling or attacking, or doing anything except coming too close for her comfort.

She set out to kill animals that day, so why not call her "Killer Woman"? Was she going to eat the elk she hoped to kill with her bow? Nothing in the story tells us that. Why did she choose a bow in the first place? More "sporting"? Would the elk be happier to slowly and painfully bleed to death with an arrow in him rather than going out instantly with a bullet to the head or heart?

I'm not anti-hunting. Nor pro wolf. But that story is some seriously f*#ked-up journalism.

Actually, calling it journalism is to give it weight it doesn't deserve.

Ghost - are you seriously that misinformed? Got your wolf education from
the Disney ch. perhaps?

Any large predator that approaches like that monster did must be killed,
be it a grizzly, cougar, and especially a wolf.

There are no innocent cyclists.

Apparently not. The newspapers and TV have reported a number of instances of wolves chasing cyclists and snapping at their feet in Idaho, Wyoming and Alaska.

RJ, have you ever seen a wolf in person? That is, outside of a zoo, or the wolf-dog hybrids your redneck friends probably have chained in their yards? A real, live, wild wolf?

(This ought to keep him busy for a while.)

RJ & CC

You guys really ought to think before you type. I know that's not how you roll, but ST would be a better place if the two of you did a bit more thinking and a little less typing.

Did I say she shouldn't have shot the wolf? No.

Did I say wolves were warm, fuzzy, Disney animals? No.

But of course you both are so hard-wired to disagree with anybody who doesn't say exactly what you are thinking at the moment that thoughtful reading is not even possible. I didn't praise her to the skies, so I must be a wolf hugger, and probably from Kali. Right?

Maybe your lack of thought is why neither of you gets the respect you think you deserve.
