How about a little 1970 Samba for you:

Or maybe we can drift in a little different direction with the mellow side of James, released in early 1971 (a few months after his death):

But not ready to leave 1971 yet, with love for the mandolin and a great album:

Can you believe how many outstanding songs came from 1971?

It's just uncanny:

What year can you point out that had so many incredible releases? Maybe Whipping post came out a few years before, but it blasted out live on the full side of Live at Fillmore East in 1971:

Credence was making history:

Even Don Maclean was ripping it up like there's no tomorrow:

And Bob Dylan was crankin' out Greatest Hits Volume II. Too many gems to fit in volume I, and still amazing stuff spilling out.
Graham Nash was keepin' it together for their awesome body of material:

John Lennon helped generations transcend war and governments and religion:

Seriously? The entire album this came from:

What did they put in the water? Senseless war, death for sale and served up as nightly news entertainment, the uphill trudge for civil rights, and a generation of kids that wanted to find their own way. Amazing musicians must have been present throughout history, but 1971 just seems to be off the Richter scale for iconic releases.
If you were stuck on an island with the music published in only one calendar year, what year can beat 1971?
