These are about as pure as they get in California. At least as far as those that ought to know, know.
Blurry, but shows off the belly nicely
Every last one a golden!

Native Goldens in their native habitat are usually in the 4-6 inch range.
small streams, short feeding season = small fish.
Lake Goldens in Wyoming are huge.
Before they ate all the Mountain Yellow legged frogs, Calif. Goldens were huge too.
That last sentence is speculation on my part.
There are still huge Goldens in lakes in Calif.
Get walking and stop talking (about where they are) :-)

Couple of summers ago I went with a couple friends to get some goldies in the XXXX range of XXXXX. Two days of walking took us up to timberline. We set up camp at the very remote XXXX Lake in the XXXXX Basin at XXX00 ft. Over the next 3 days each of us hooked (and released) over 200 trout as we toured the streams and lakes of that basin. Approx. half were goldens, the largest of which was about 6.5 inches. We caught some brookies up to 13 inches as well. The last night we feasted on brook trout. Man, it was a great trip!
Pate, I'm with you...that area near Meeker has some quality fish. I sure do miss fly fishing in CO.

I was told we caught some Golden Trout in the Winds last week, but I really don't know the difference between species very well. The guys I was with said the Winds were famous for this at one time because Golden Trout are rarely found outside of CA.
