Peter, that has to a forgery! No one was ever that young! Check out the "mustache"! Not to destroy the forgery story, but I think that was 1970 and the first fall I spent in the Valley.
I'm wearing my favorite wool shirt that I decided, that combined with a cotton T-shirt, would be warm enough to do Dana Couloir in October. That was because I lent my down jacket Margot with the big brown eyes so she wouldn't be cold in camp. That was with Tom Fukuya and we summited just at sunset. We were fried and stumbling on the way down, and he wanted to bivy. I was hypothermic enough to be confused, but I sensed that I better not stop. When we got to his car, I got in all our sleeping bags and was still racked(sp?) with violent shivering for a long time. I don't think I would have survived a bivy.
People have expressed enough interest that I'll offer up one last bit of beta and then I'll shut up: the pine needle covered dirt of the second pitch shouldn't be completely discounted.
Hey: happy birthday scruffy b.

Peter, Thanks for posting that photo of Darwin. We were talking about his COLD Dana Couloir climb in that wool shirt as we drove by. I haven't seen any from that era that I've heard so much about. Any more? Maybe on the rock.
Bob, we saw it? I don't remember. Maybe from above/across the way?
Greg, Yes it's a beautiful area. Despite being not far from the road, it seems quite remote. I plan to get back there for some hiking and exploring.

Wow What a nice little adventure! Seems like a very cool climb with an amazing view on top!
Thanks for the great TR. (And Thanks to Tony for the link of Monkey Island ;)
Also thanks for bumping - otherwise I would've never known about such climb!!

shameless self bump of the posting of mine that I liked the best, in honor of ST's demise. The images are there if you click them (and yes they are all mine!). I also said it the ST-shutdown thread: thanks CMac and RJ.
