When I was a youngster working in LA's film industry and escaping to J-Tree on the weekends (in the late 80s), JB would show up there in his 4-Runner with the entire back section loaded to the gills with ACES and other Boreal shoes. I remember buying a pair from him for dirt cheap. Not sure if they were rejects or what. But he'd tell us punks how good they were, etc. etc., and they ended up becoming (at least) my shoe of choice. For a very good reason. We had the same shape of foot. He also told me about Peter Croft getting rescued off that climb...crap, what's it called....which made for a really interesting interview with Peter I did in 1991 for Mountain. Man, sad to hear of his demise. A truly wonderful guy.......best to all his family.

This is so sad. It truly is difficult to believe.
I offer some words that I hope are appropriate and will comfort:
"Death cannot be understood without compassion. Compassion teaches me that when my brother dies, I too die. Compassion teaches me that my brother and I are one." — Thomas Merton
"You don't get to choose how you're going to die or when. You can only decide how you're going to live." — Joan Baez
Blessings and peace to you John... my heart goes out to all who are missing him.

This is heart wrenching. I never got to climb with John, nor play music together. I was hopeful for both. What a crazy, f'ed up year this has been for climbers. It seemed like John alone could beat the odds, he did for so long.
Surfers have a Paddle Out for their fallen brethren. Can we have a gathering to share our love for Bachar and share thanks for all he gave to us?
we could have a tribute in the Climbing zone at OR, in a few weeks. There is also a day-after impromptu gathering in the Uintah's (Ruth Lake)that draws a lot of John's friends from the climbing world. Of course JTree would be a natural place to gather as well. Bring some pics to OR and we will have a memorial board and book in the climbing zone.
