I've never concerned myself with what others are carrying. None of my business, and none of your's either.

The thing that always amuses me is how Dems and Repugs tend to flip flop when it comes to this one issue of personal freedom whereas the Dems are usually FOR it while the Repugs prefer more economic freedom and less personal freedom (sort of, but they don't actually).

As for penile compensation, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Jim, and sometimes a car is just efficient conveyance.
I've owned some really fast cars without messing up as badly as some who have killed their friends with slower vehicles.

Just because I'm a little guy doesn't mean I'm not skilled with tools, and all the people I have killed heartily deserved it.

"President Ronald Reagan first required guns to be stored or inoperable in national parks 25 years ago, but last December, just before leaving office, the Bush administration overturned that rule."

OK, Repub gun nuts, who does your allegiance lie with...Reagan or Shrub?

Let's see... I'm going on a road trip this summer. I have to pass through a national park and/or recreation area. I guess I'll just have to bury my pistol in a hole and pick it up on the way out.

The question is, of course, will there be limitations on the power of weapons we can now take into the parks.

The constitution makes no such limits on our abilities, therefore I once again declare my god given right, my self evident, god given right to take nukes of any size into any National Park or any public area.

Carrying such weapons will only ensure our safety, the safety of our families, in a very dangerous world.

Remember: once you draw the line as to the legality of any kind of weapon that line can then be drawn anywhere!

All weapons for all people!

And God bless our great country.

(Scratching head) Whut? I shot my brother in the butt with a bb gun when I was 12, but I haven't been packing since then.

Piton Ron, sorry I missed your sarcasm, I have not been in the forum in quite some time. But the guy they were searching for is not the one you refered to, who shot himself. This guy abducted a female ranger, took her gun and also accosted some backpackers. He was caught a week or so later in Nor Cal(bay area?). Sure I broke the regulations. But if it had come down to a confrontation with the bad guy, I would rather be "prepared" and a jury would most likely have agreed.

Bet I can cook better than you climb. LOL!

Rokjax, yes, as long as you have a Concealed Permit issued by the same state as the National Park you are visiting.

Otherwise, no.

If I remember correctly, our Founding Fathers were told to turn in their guns and were considered criminals.

Rokjox, it's funny how guick an aggressor can change into a spineless weakling when confronted with an iron will. Don't tread on Me! Good for you Rokjox!

People sure can be funny on an issue they don't understand, and thus they make responses based on emotions rather than reason.

Saying there will be a rash of shootings is as absurd as saying if YPS allowed the use of power drills, there would be a rash of climbing deaths. Yeah, right.

Living in a state where there is a large population of people armed, both in the city and the woods, there just isn't alot of people shooting the place up. Yes we do have defense of life and property (DLP) shootings of bears, and they aren't always justified. But I don't have a problem with a few less bears vs. a few more maulings, I'm a people person.

I'd advise those that are skeered of guns to educate themselves about firearms, and firearm safety. It's difficult to have an intelligent discussion of a subject when you really have no idea what you are talking about.

I think there is reasonable concern that someone who is packing heat may encounter a sitch in an NP wherein he/she believes it is reasonable to let loose when, in fact, it is not.

Outside of the supertopo brain trust there are people who, for example, don't know the difference between a black bear and griz and may not know that seeing #46 raid a campsite is not a life threating scenario.

I have a Concealed Carry Permit from New Mexico.
I carry a Kahr 9mm pretty much all day away from home, ankle holster or inside the waist.

I believe my license is honored in Arizona and Oklahoma and probably Florida, have not checked.

Yep, not good in California, had to put the ammo in the trunk and my guns in a case elsewhere in the car to get in to Yosemite.

getting the permit took 16 hours of agony in a classroom, then
maybe one hour shooting at a target nobody could miss.
Cost some $200 for the class, could have just read the statute for all the class was worth, just my opinion.

Rox, I've been robbed at gunpoint and had shots fired 3' from my head on a climbing trip. Still don't feel the need to own a gun- having had one in the situation I was in wouldn't have made a difference.

I'm not 'skeered' of guns, either- I have fired a few (Glock, shotgun, rifle) during my life, and I have considered obtaining one for my home.

Guns don't belong in National Parks, concealed or not. Coburn's slimy inclusion of this bill in the credit card bill was slimy, and totally consistent with the slimy tactics the GOP is known for (slimy). The spineless Dems let it slide by because the CC bill is an important political victory, and the don't have the political guts to go up against the NRA/gun lobby and to have the reinforced 'anti-gun' characterization. It's total BS.

Wonderful. Loose cannons in the night in Camp 4 when the bears raid the trigger happy guy's leftovers on the table. I'm going back to sleeping in the boulders. And NO more nights in Tuolumne Mdws campground.

OK
Let's get the facts: The old rule did NOT ban transporting firearms in the National Parks. It banned concealed, loaded firearms. One regulation, uniform across National Parks.

The new law, If not amended and then is signed, says (from MSNBC internet):
"The measure, which is included in a bill imposing new restrictions on credit card companies, allows licensed gun owners to bring firearms into national parks and wildlife refuges as long as they are allowed by state law."

I suppose this includes National Monuments.

Yellowstone: which state? Idaho, Montana or Wyoming?

The California law is for concealed is what will apply to Yosemite.

From the California Atty General website FAQ
"May I carry a concealed firearm in California?"
Except in extremely limited circumstances, you may not carry a concealed firearm on your person in public unless you have a valid CCW license. CCW permits are issued only by a county sheriff to residents of the county, or by the head of a city police department to residents of that city.

(PC Sections 12025-12031, 12050-12054)

"I live in another state and have a permit to carry a concealed handgun that was issued in my home state. Does my permit allow me to carry a concealed handgun while in California?"
No. Weapons permits from other states are not valid in California.

So in California/Yosemite, without a carry concealed weapon (CCW) permit, guns in vehicles must be kept unloaded and locked in trunk (from Wikipedia):
"In still others(states), such as California,[30] Maryland[31] and New Jersey, transport of a gun in a vehicle is only allowed if the gun is unloaded and secured out of reach of the driver and passengers."

Just the facts, Ma'am

This is rad. With a light enough handgun I can chip holds on lead from a distance.
