Humm Zip, wrong thread. Cut and paste this over to Erik's which is talking about just such occurrences. This thread is for the stories of girls who want to climb and have a hard time finding a qualified partner.
The gals I am referring to are happy to drive long hours, pay, hump gear, buy gear, get dirty, hike down in the dark, be cold at belays, travel to exotic destinations, travel to local sh#t-holes, bivy in the dirt, lead routes, swing leads, belay endless hours for FA's, step aside the red point, make hero leads, climb the wide, use their favorite Prana tops for topo notes, get up crack-o-dawn and quite possibly would do all the cooking and cleaning to boot.
These are the ladies I refer to. I've seen the girls you speak of... I don't hang out with them much :)

Ha, ha. Yes, the NCFs (non climbing females) in my life have kept me in semi-climber status.

totally agree!
here's another scenario
girl meets boy. girl teaches boy to climb. boy gets competitive with girl; he's unhappy that his girlfriend is a better climber than him...culminates in breaking up during a climbing road trip.

Girl meets guy, takes her outside for her first time, shows her a good time, gets her completely addicted to Tuolomne and the Valley and the Leap, then decides, after ill-fated trip to JTree on one-year anniversary, that he isn't up for relationship. Girl must now find someone to partner her and it takes a while!
Girl meets other guy, nicest guy in the world, totally compatible climbing partner plus can stand each other on car trips to crags, boy falls in love with girl, girl doesn't fall in love, guy melts down, climbing relationship over. Such a bummer.
Girl is reduced to climbing in the gym only. Girl advertises on craigslist for partner only, no relationship wanted (see previous paragraph). Guy who responds states he has a girlfriend and isn't interested in relationship yet asks for picture. Girl sends a climbing pic, boy sends a glamour shot, boy never calls back. #*%@*hole.
Girl gives it another try. Boy cannot climb. Girl tries to help. Girl is stronger than boy. Boy struggles with this. No bad ending, but it all fades away.
Old friend who is boy calls girl. "I am completely ready to get back into climbing." After a month, girl has only climbed with him in the gym 4 times, he swears repeatedly that he usually can schedule climbing trips often, yet she misses this last weekend's amazing weather and he cleverly avoids all conversation regarding actually nailing down planning trips, while continuing to string her along by promising there will be trips. Augh!
To whit: One single, northern california woman of middle age seeks climbing partner who wants to climb. Period. I don't care if you have a girlfriend or not. It's summer, I just got the news from my doctor that my retina is staying attached. I can climb at least 2 weekends a month, if not more. I belong to both Touchstone and Planet Granite. I am not lead certified indoors. I only have the one good eye, so that complicates things. There, full disclosure rendered.
Thanks, Sooze, for bringing it all back...

The lovely Daphne is a perfect example of the problems women find while looking for good climbing partners. Even when not looking for the romantic aspect.

Susan-
Nice troll. If finding a dedicated climber was your only criteria this would be cake. Like most women, however...there are far, far more criteria than that haha!

In my humble experience a women will never hang (happily) with a man who makes less than she does nor a climbing partner who climbs lesser.
Can you see Beth taking a 5.10 gym rat out to the crags every weekend. Ain't going to happen.
