I dredged around and found this shot. I took it with an old Kodak Pony camera that I got at a rummage sale. This may have been 1980, I'm not sure.
Check out the shoes; how we would glue leather on the ankle areas.
Peace and love on this fine day.

Sorry, let me clarify a few things from the blog entry...James, are you saying you erased the lightning bolt? And than someone else drew one?
Personally, I think original drawing was/is part of C4 history, and a big part of that boulder problem in particular. Erasing original drawing is kind of retarded IMHO.

Vitaliy, your opinion is maybe worth more than mine because you still climb.
No my opinion is not worth more than yours. Everyone has the right to express their opinion.

So what, there's an iconic chalk drawing on a famous boulder problem in camp four. If this get your panties in a bunch, you might want to rethink and loosen them a little. I guess you are hoping to get an at-a-boy or something by posting your chalk erasing story.
At a boy. Go get em tiger...

Those who take it upon themselves to chop the bolt at least should do it ground up and not on rappel.

James,
Just because the magic has left the bolt for you, don't presume that it is gone for everyone. My first attempts of Midnight Lightening was in 1984. I just went back about a year ago to try it again. Seeing the lightening bolt was very inspiring to me, and brought me back to those attempts with John and Ron at the base with me. I know your actions were as symbolic as the lightening bolt is for me, but I question your motives if you write about it on your blog and then link it to here. Symbolism can be very powerful, and you shouldn't presume to understand the symbolism for others.
Respectively, Andrew
