Blinks
As a friend, myself Ben Wah and Bernie from the mountain shop suggested and told him if he wanted to stay, as which he did, try and get a job or something so that he’s legit to the powers that are here. That way he can stay and not be evicted.
”There’s a system here in place whether we like it or not to protect this resource, Yosemite Nat. Park’
That applies to everyone including me. I had no desire to see him evicted, that was your idiotic mental speculation based on your own biased and negative views that you project onto the world.
Your mental speculations are driven by some ulterior motive that are festering within you that have nothing to do with Chuck.
Believe me fool, you better think about WTF your talking about before you go spewing your screwed up mind about things you know absolutely nothing about.

"There’s a system here in place whether we like it or not to protect this resource, Yosemite Nat. Park. We continually told him to get a job or something to become legit. He refused in distaste."
Sounds to me like Chongo's friends encouraging him to take action and avoid the mess he's in right now.

Enough. I may be only a fool but you've revealed your own duplicity.
You should discontinue calling me Blinks, it will hamper your evolutionary knowledge.

Could it be that someone referred to Werner as a "Tool"?
Seems to me a term that might offend and set anyone just a tad on edge, especially since of all involved, he has been in a situation to observe the unfolding drama with his own eyes.
In the absence of evidence to the contrary, Werner is hereby
judged qualified to present expert testimony.
Got that from Judge Judy.

You guys are either 12 years old or your too stupid
to realize that your simply frustrated and jealous that Werner gets to live in Mecca and you don't.
Why? Cuz he has learned to work within the system.
You idiots just complain. You're probably too good
to work for the man....like Chongo.
Well guess what? Werner will still be in the Valley
when you and Chongo are long gone!
Somehow Werner must be a "sell out" or whatever for doing it legitimately but Chongo is a folk hero for doing it illegally and drawing more attention to dirtbags than ever!??????
Good left wing logic.
Respect to Werner!

Everyone has days when they are edgier than other days, including Werner. Everybody has sore subject too.
Personally, I'm beyond grateful that the law enforcement types have an example from the climbing community like Werner to work with. I'm sure it's been hard for him to be caught inbetween the two worlds from time to time, and it's natural that Werner should understand and consider both sides of each story to the extent that he knows them. Link is another asset for climbers in Yosemite. We can't expect them to see it our way only. If nobody who knows climbers is on the inside, things could really go downhill for climbers.
I'm not saying anybody is beyond question or reproach, but consider some respect too.
However, regarding this particular situation, I don't truly know either side of the story, so I can only wish everyone well.
Peace
karl

Ok Binks
I know you’re not “Blinks” so you see it’s starting to get to you.
AngryT, not everything is what you see.
I really don’t care about being called a tool as we all are tools of our own misfortune and fortune. Binks never called me a tool anyway. Klaus did and I know Klaus personally and take no offense from him anyway.
No, what really teed me off is these fools that come out of the wood works that are trying to imply I’m behind or had a hand in Chucks predicament. My original post was only give some facts so people will know what happened to him. Somehow, Binks fertile mind got the great impression that I had something to do with it.
That was slander and I’ll come out big time man……..

Agreed AngryT! Although I will miss Chongo greatly and wish he could have remained, I've been playing devil's advocate. Werner, it was just too much fun fishing you out to resist.

I've sat on the sidelines on this entire Chongo thing for my own reasons. Mostly because Chongo is a good friend of mine and I didn't want to say negative things about him in public.
But, here I am.... I know most of us have broken the two weeks in the Valley rule. I've broken a lot more rules and laws other than that and have paid dearly for it (mostly alcohol related).
I think the only time I've complained about "fairness" is when I got busted climbing the Muir Tree and the rangers tried to charge me with "endangering plant life". I was three-sheets-to-the-wind and also got a "drunk in public" charge. I know I'm not supposed to be THAT drunk in public so how could I bitch about that one. I broke the rules.
I haven't talked to Chongo about this, yet.... But, he is a smart man. He knew he wasn't supposed to "camp" in the Valley for that long and he got busted for it. I'm sure he would be the first one to admit this and take it like a man because he knew the consequences.
That being said, I hope he doesn't have to do jail time and pay a huge fine. I also hope he finds a legal way to stay in the park.
Werner is right on this. We ALL tried to convince Chongo to at least be less profile. I personally have told him he should find another place to go in winter. I don't think you can blame the rangers for doing their jobs. PERIOD!!!
I’m sure I’ll get a lot of sh#t for this BUT this is how I feel about it and I’m sticking to it.

I wonder if both sides would be open to working out some kind of deal where he could work a job in the park, so he can be legit and stay in the valley? If they maintain a fine, he could work it off. If they kick him out and order him to pay a fine, they'll never see their money anyway.

Believe me you've been waiting to be trolled for a long time Werner. All that quoting Hindu scripture and pontificating unassailable wisdom... I mean, it was really a pretty transparent troll too. My first post even says it is a joke. Then your buddy Klaus writes in his post that he's been trolled. Face it, you have been FISHED and it was easy.
Mission accomplished.
See you in the valley!

And you have too when I called you "Blinks" was easy too.
There were too many of your statements that held no truth to the joke factor. It's just your way of trying to worm your way out.
Is this how you slink away?

Werner-let it go man. Let Binks puppydog you shamelessly. I have seen you swing a sledgehammer, so I have no doubt as to who the man is. Some can talk the talk, other walk the walk.

Werner as Suit? I think not. WB represents the best of climbers: passionate, hardworking, service-oriented. Thanks for your years of service amigo!
Doesn't deserve to be trolled.

Great thread to bump, relatively short, some witty slander and some history.
Chongo update? I need a resole, is he in JT this winter? Has it really been over a quarter century since I had a Chongo resole?

Update? Last I saw was 2012 maybe, Lepton showed me an article about Chongo here in the Sac area. He was writing regularly for a homeless advocacy journal or something?
It talked about his big backpack, and his daily commute on foot to the library where he wrote on his laptop.
That's about all I remember.
Count me in the Werner fan club.....except when he's taking the piss out of me for something!
What happened to Binks? Who was/is it?

Thanks for the links, love the "Chongo on Call" page
Chongo’s wisdom has resulted in the very best highliners and big wall climbers in the world. His tutelage has led to building champions. His experience can help make you or your group champions too. Cell phone service is available in many places, like Yosemite, for example, allowing you ask for advice in the field (as well as putting Chongo in reach from wherever).
The best technical advice there is can be a phone call away from anywhere there is service. Make arrangements to talk to Chongo by cell phone during the course of your adventure by contacting the master himself in advance of your trip; e-mail: chongonation@yahoo.com.
