I don't much care what they were thinking about Obama, but I'd be interested in hearing what you reckon they were thinking about their own candidates. Tiz a puzzlement. . .

One belief the religious right held was that Palin was okay even if you was a bit green because she was for real religious beliefs. They bought the notion that she was a real Christian and that Obama wasn't. So Christian trumps incompetent. Better an incompetent Christian then a competent heathen.

She is pretty hot and likes to kill animals so all the white trash republican dudes loved her.

The whole she got a bum rap from the media is a laugh. She brought that stuff on herself with her stupidity. Hilary got much worse treatment, the stuff against Hilary was really negative, she is shrill, domineering, ugly, etc. While the stuff against Sarah was not nearly as negative, she is too inexperienced, clueless, and pretty. Oh boohoo.

You take the most rediculous aspects of people and make fun of that, that's what's funny.

Ugh.

Another thread that can be summarized by:

"Those that disagree are ignorant and stupid."

You guys are really full of yourselves.

Oh, John. And it's spelled P-a-l-i-n. But you knew that.

Tomtom, this has nothing to do with disagreement. I disagree with David Brooks and Peggy Noonan on virtually every issue, yet I will concede they are intelligent, informed people.

Palin is just a subpar intellect, incurious, and arrogant about it to boot. She is a proud f*#king idiot, which actually works well with a segment of the GOP base who prefer "just folks" and attempt to denigrate "elitists".

I'm weighing in here. I definitely am so proud of our country for doing, what I believe was the right thing.. especially the youth. They Rocked the Vote... BIG TIME. That being said. I voted for Obama because I felt we needed, not just change, but radical change for the world to see. And from what I've been seeing on the BBC is the world is behind us again.... awesome. I think the man is incredibly smart, and totally capable of leading us in the right direction.... however, this is not, and can not rest solely on his and the government's shoulders.... we, the people have to participate.... (listen up kids!!) It's your country now, I'm getting old, as many of us. So, you gotta step up and make it right. No more oppression, no more hatred. Put a stop to it. Only you can.

As for John McCain. Anyone who went through a POW camp in the 'nam has my TOTAL respect. My brother died there and I have great admiration for those guys. But hey, it's a new day... that was a long time ago, and we are strapped with 2 wars... it's gotta stop somewhere.

Obama really is our hope... I only desire for us, as Americans to band together, and make this a better country for our kids and grand kids... they deserve it!

Sara.... Well, I really would not be comfortable w/ her as a possible leader of the free world... just not enough experienced, and the winking thing kinda weirded me out.

Moosie- Pretty sure my in-laws voted both for Obama and for prop 102 banning gay marriage here in Arizona.

My take on the attractiveness of Palin: There is a significant element of our population that has a very narrow view of competence, driven by their religious viewpoints. They are driven by the phrase "what would Jesus do?", and what they are looking for is a person who uses that as a litmus test of their actions. The closer someone is to that, the more they will support them. There is a system of "codewords", that let religious people know, that is what a candidate is thinking.

Inasmuch as they are following divine inspiration, if a person follows that process, they will be making the best possible decision...in the minds of such voters.

Intelligence, education, experience.....none of that matters. In fact, bringing any of that up is a direct attack on the real issue: closeness to God.

Many, many decisions have been made in history this way.

Of course, rarely is what we average people want, what Jesus would do.

I think there are other reasons, as well, but I think this is prominent.

Palin is heading for political obscurity. She reminds me of Kathleen what's-her-name from Florida, secretary of state, helped GWB win in 2000, elected to Congress, then what? The GOP must reject the "winning is the only thing"" strategy and the anti-elitism, as it only hurts the country. People have figured that out...well, enough people.

Ken, Jesus taught to turn the other cheek and to love your enemies, not kill them or torture them. I think the very problem that the extreme religious right has is that they do NOT ask what Jesus would do, nor do they even seem to know. Jesus wouldn't fight a war, but the majority of the religious right certainly supports it. So Christianity has been hijacked by those who don't even know what Jesus would do. Jesus called this the blind leading the blind.

High, Yes.. I was thinking about that very phenomenon. Here in California it is obvious from the vote that some folks must have voted for Obama and voted to ban gay marriage. I don't feel that I really understand that yet.

Funny thing is, if Jesus returned and did anything like the first Jesus did (criticized the mainstream religion and asked people to give piles of money away) they'd wouldn't give him a second thought!

Or he'd be in Gitmo!

You're right LEB. Discernment IS key:

Palin doesn't know that Africa is a continent, not a country. Also doesn't know what countries are in NAFTA. McCain and staff also highly doubtful of Palin's ability to do the job: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWZHTJsR4Bc

Pile that on with not being able to name a single supreme court decision besides Roe vs Wade, what the role of the VP is and the pile of other drek that has come out of her mouth and it paints a pretty clear picture of her LEB. Your insistence on ignoring reality paints a pretty clear one of you.

Really LEB? That's the best you can do? If there was one lesson you could learn from this election it's that when the facts obviously don't favor your viewpoint attacking your opponent doesn't make you any more correct.

Struggling with being gainfully employed? Really? Tell me more about my life LEB. You clearly know all about me.

And people DID listen to me. Not sure if you noticed or not but MY SIDE WON! I convinced scores of people to vote, donate money and volunteer for Obama. So um....bite me.

For starters, he figured out that Africa is a continent. haha.

Plus he can probably name a few newspapers even though he is not a journalism major.

He gets my vote right there over Palin.

Lois, please watch this video. It starts with the SNL skit, but there is more. Its only 2 minutes 47 seconds long.
