great stories Don.
I am a big Norman Clyde fan.
A funny aside(and not meant to demean Mr. Clyde), but a few weeks ago Fletcher,a Supertopo poster, and I were climbing in the Alabama Hills. There was a couple climbing next to us. They were Bishop locals down for the day. Anyway, they had two dogs, and one of the dog's names was Norman Clyde

Wow it's so cool to have our own living history house here.
We have so many from overlapping eras, and we get to share such cool stuff. Our recent additions (Don, McKeown, Pettigrew) to the campfire are priceless and with Ed doin' the quality bumps it's rockin' in here.
Everyone is hungry for the real thing after all that political shyte! It's a pleasure to have you with us.

You are a very good story teller, Don... very much appreciate these great tales. Thank you. The Taco as living history.

And yes, that dog story at the Alabama Hills is true. The dog started to run after some passing horses. His master suddenly yelled, "Norman! Norman Clyde you come back here!" 10b4me and I looked at each other knowingly. I then said to "Norman Clyde's" master, "No doubt you must be a mountaineer."

Norman Clyde is one of my favorites too. And, he was a classical scholar as I was. I think he surpassed me at that and mountaineering!

Not dmalloy here, but the wife...Just a bump to keep this thread up, and to say that apparently great minds think alike in Bishop, because we have a friend who named his crag kitty Norman Clyde too. Norman goes along with him to the Gorge sometimes, and definitely Pine Creek and trail crew, where he scares the dogs away. It's great to read Don's stuff here, thanks Don!

While reading the thread on visions of free climbing El Cap, I got to thinking one of you elder statesmen types should try to get Royal Robbins posting here.

Back in the day, he always had two cents to throw in. Heck Lauria is posting here now, and it didn't kill him, just added some of the best stories we've had in a long time.

I seem to recall something about Clyde using a boy scout hatchet to cross a glacier.

Don, your stories have brightened up this place considerably! I think you are writing them faster than I can read them. Here's a suggestions: Chris Mac should collect all these classic stories and copy them to a story location. So all the Largo (John Long, Peter Hann, DR- Doug Robinson etc etc etc and all these great old guys can get permanent representation. These awesome stories seem to get lost in the back pages quickly, which some stupid political sh#t invariably on top of them.

Lets keep them all on top all the time!

Thanks again

Don,

I read your "Dihedral Diary" in Summit when I first started climbing, and have been hooked on your writing ever since. Thanks for all of your contributions -- on and off the rock.
