I am................devastated. Allie, your dad meant so much to me. And I only knew him through this forum. I know you must feel so fortunate to have him as your dad. My deepest sympathies to you. I am weeping, crying and laughing remembering the limited part of Ouch I knew.
PLEASE expand our knowledge of his wonderfull spirit, and the flesh and blood vessel that graced our planet for a while.
Love to you and your family,
-Jeff Lowe

It would be sweet if someone would post up a thread of all his cartoons.
It was an honor to get...Ouched. ;-)

Fuçk. Please say it ain't so. As the butt of many of Sam's cartoons and persistent heckling,
I can say unequivocally that the man had a special talent and spirit. We watched as his
rudimentary art was honed and refined before our very eyes. Whenever I would call him
on something, he would invariably reply with a "ROTFLMAO!" - and it was all good.
Rest in peace, brother Ouch!

hey there all, and dear daughter of ouch!, dear allie... say, i just got out of work and babysitting and a serious phone call, and my guinea pig dying, and now i feel so studpid for crying over it----i never that somehow dear to us, here, had died...
i am very sorry to heree this sad news... dear gal, to lose a beloved father, there is just no words right now... i am very sad for you, as i too, love my father and surely can only wish you the deepest strong-anchor to hold you through this, as i would wish and want for myself...
my dear and deep condolences to you...
i had been praying for him, because awhile back, he was not here for so very long and folks were worried---then, someone posted that he was not doing well, and i took to heart that perhaps something was really wrong (not just a one time, feeling-bad)...
at least, i know in my heart, that my prayers somehow helped, but i will never how, or in what way---i hope it was to ease any pain...
sure wish that i had more to have shared with OUCH! here, but he stood-ground very solid with everyone here, in love, so i always knew he enough treasures... still, i tried to share what i could...
god bless to your family at this time, dear daughter of his, and i too loved that shared picture of him and his wife at yosemite--now i have a picture to remember him by, along with his art and skills that are left behind...
love to you, neebee...
edit: oh, my... i am so ashamed:
dear wife of ouch!--say, i had not even mentioned you, as i addressesed this to allie...
may your heart not break so hard that you forget the wonderful joys of your life with your man... may it break only enough to know the true value of your full treasure that had with him, while he was with you... and may you have even more joy, in the heavenly realm, when the time comes, to continue your friendship and partnership and loving bond, for a world we can only guess at now...
i am very sad and feel sorrow for your loss, and my deep condolences to you...
your man shared his life very nice here with all of us... kind of as we all were family, here to him, too....
god bless and love, neebee

Friends of Ouch!,
I am speechless...which is an unusual state for me. I was not prepared for this quick response of heartfelt comments about my dad although it does not suprise me. He is amazing. I am struggling to come up with what to say so bear with me...Not a matter of not having a lot to say about him..just trying to figure out what he would want. He was a very private man but appropriately so. He did not want a memorial. Adamant about it. I have some ideas in that regard though but cannot talk about that yet...not yet.
He was the kind of man all men aspire to be. My world changed forever at 2:30 on the 16th of October. His name was Allen. Others called him big Al.(not sure where the Sam thing came from...hehe)He is 6'6. He was strong and could do anything. Everything he touched turned to gold but he needed little to make him happy. It was never about him. He was the youngest of 8... I want him back and probably have no business posting here right now. I am the youngest of his 3 kids. I have two older brothers. He has 4 grandkids. Mine are 16 and 17 and the 3 of us live in Kirkland WA. He has a 26 yr old granddaughter in Dublin and a 2 yr old grandson in WA. He lived in Spokane WA with my mom and they were married for 51 years. He was born and raised in Tennessee and we moved to Montana in 1969 or so and to WA in '82. In the winter he would drive out with his truck looking for people that had went in ditches to pull them out and get them home. He plowed the entire neighborhoods driveways of snow. All winter. He fished and gave fish to people that were crappy fishermen so they could take some home to their family. Did the same with hunting. He was a survival instructor in the Air Force when younger and worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and then the Bureau of Reclamation in Montana where he retired early and then went on to retire with Washington Water Power. He was a power operator. He hunted, hiked, and fished and played many sports...He got a scholarship to Vanderbilt for football and it was taken away before it started when he and some others were kicked out of the Grand Ole Opry for being rowdy...hehe...it was live in those days...(somehow I can picture that) He also held 2 freshwater fish world records...
Thank you for sharing what he said about my mom and his marriage. Wow. Simply...thank you for posting that. He meant every word and exemplified it every day. I like that he said that and when she is ready it will mean so very much to her.
His family was everything to him...thank you for the nice words and for thinking of us during this time. He would have loved to know that you did that. I wish you knew just how much... My dad never judged a single living sole in his lifetime. He liked simple things...was highly intelligent...wicked sense of humor...biggest heart ever and would give the shirt off his back if you needed it more than he did. I have many pics but I am at his house right now so will wait until I get home on Sunday for that. I would love to see the pics he did for some of you. That would make me and my mom incredibly happy...
Sorry...that's all I have in me right now...
Damn...

It's like losing Charlie Chaplin and the Dalai Lama in one shot.
Hearing the news opens my heart and makes the tears flow. I don't dare be sad because I only want to wish him well on his ultimate adventure, but indeed, he has loved us and blessed up all here on Supertopo.
It was always plain that he had Love in his heart for everyone. We felt it. We all fought with each other but nobody fought ouch. He was the honey that took the edge off of everything.
I wish you infinite bliss and peace sweet friend, on your definitive journey into the source of Love itself.

I saw all the Ouch rules threads and was wondering what was going on. This is terrible! Thank you so much for letting us know. Was it even known here that he was sick? I've never had the loss of a guy on the internet make me this sad before. This really won't be the same place without him.
Much love to you and thank you for yours.

Ouch's reply:
Sorry Nita, I'm still stuck on Jim Croce's Roller Derby Queen.
"five foot six, two fifteen, bleach-blonde mama with a streak of mean"
Now there's some kinda lyrics..

Thank you so very much for sharing, Allie. Ouch really was a big part of the fun of Supertaco. It is neat to hear more about his background and life. I will certainly miss his zany cartoons and irreverent humor.

The worst news and the greatest of pains.
With all the BS that flies around here it may be difficult to perceive that we are
a clan of climbers that care for each other and 'know' each other intimately from
this entertainment that flows from the contributions of each.
I regret the complete lack of words to covey this sentiment. But, much more, I
regret that in his time of fear and vulnerability that we could not help wrap this man,
your dad, in the love that we all unwittingly developed for him.
Greatest of wishes for strength to the grieving family.
