Montana?? Too many californians

So you then moved to CA???

Though I can understand you'd want to see different areas if you were born and raise in Bozeman...

Did you move here to be in a hurry?

"I'd vote for Bend/Redmond. Climate is very similar to SLC. Skiing is not as good, but then, short of Canadian heli-skiing, what is?
Good climbing close by, some nice restaurants, and housing prices not too high."

Bend/Redmond is closed look somewhere else

hey Blinny....I think you can hang the "LA North" tag on Mammoth, but not so much on Bishop. There are still cows roaming everywhere around town, most people live modest lifestyles, and everywhere you go around here you see friendly people you recognize. Two minutes on a bike and you are riding along the canal under cottonwood trees or on a road between two alfalfa pastures. Leave the car at home most of the time, you can walk or ride to work, the grocery store or the coffeeshop.

Not saying it is PMBs destiny to live here - no shooting guns off your deck, not many places to play music in front of an audience (although lots of great musicians to hang out and jam with), nightlife is pretty much reduced to hanging out with your friends at someone's place, housing is expensive and jobs are hard to find. But it is a place to live a quiet life with several lifetimes worth of adventure right out your backdoor.

Also a damn good place to pick up a locally raised steer at the Junior Livestock Auction or grow humongous tomatoes and squash in the backyard. Local food is becoming one of the cornerstones of my own satisfaction with living here....

TK-just ribbin' you guys.My whole family still lives in the 'zone and I'll always be a Montanan but I did see Bozeman change drastically in my years. When I come home the traffic totally crushes me.19th is insanity! The "batholith" does rule.

Fifteen or even ten years ago, I would've moved to Flag. I'm not so sure these days.

Around 2001 or '02 I looked seriously at condos in Chamonix and then in the Bleau area, but didn't really have the dough. You don't get the tax break if you buy out of US. On the other hand, your French would improve quickly (unless you spend all yr time hanging with the Brits).

I know Capt. I was just messin back...

19th is insanity
Agreed

Actually Pagan, Livingston could be a good choice too...a bit quieter than Bozeman and still only 45 minutes or so from the mountain. Plus you have all the Paradise climbing at your backdoor...and Yellowstone...

Yeah, Vancouver rocks. I did the American living in Canada thing for a year-and-a-half, and loved the place. I broke down twice and had to go to the docter and no one blinked or even charged me. I wouldn't count on that happening, but it was pretty cool. Good bouldering in North Van, too.

Great food, clubs, tons and tons and tons of rain.

From your post it looks like skiing is 1st and climbing is 2nd, right? If it were reversed...check out Southern UT, St. George area. Perhaps more concentrated climbing withing 15 minutes than any area in the US (we climb before work 2-3 times per week...year round). Decent skiing (UT Pow for sure) is 1 hour to be on the lifts...don't have to park then shuttle, etc. It's not unusual for us to ski in the morning and go hiking in the afternoon in Zion.

Email for details.

Bishop is my second home and where my heart lies --- climbing: bouldering, sport, trad, mini-wall, alpine, ice. Skiing both BC and resort. Paragliding. Mtn. Biking. Mtn. boarding 10 mile + deserted roads. Fly fishing. Plenty of hiking, and rock and mineral collecting. Gees the list goes on and on.

Just get used to "Bishop Time," slowdown and you won't go crazy. Great people.

Yo Pagan,
What sort of music are we talking about? My prime pickin' parder moved away about seven years ago, and I've been having a devil of a time replacing him. If we were to gel, there might be a signing bonus in it for you here in Truckee

Influences: Bad Livers/Danny Barnes, Hot Rize/Tim O'Brien, Black Sabbath, George Jones, They Might Be Giants, Meat Purveyors, Graham Parsons, Split Lip Rayfield, etc., etc., etc....
Upbeat and obnoxious or sad, slow, and dirgy and any songs about drinking and dying

Regardless, plenty of opportunity for playing out in Tahoe/Truckee.

JACKSON HOLE! Sheesh.

Seriously - best skiing ever, good climbing, beautiful, not in a stinky metro area...

Dunno about the cardiac care, but they have an airport, and a lot of rich bazzillionaires, so its probably ok. Cost of living might be high, but then again, I bet you could find a gig living above some zillionaire's garage watering the plants 51 weeks a year.

(or, just move over the pass to Driggs, ID)
