You pretty much nailed it Woody.
It will be interesting to see if the pluses of having a woman on the ticket outweigh the inexperience negatives.
Let the dirt-digging commence (not that I'm happy that it's going to happen, but it will whether I like it or not).

Alaska Are polar bears an endangered species? The state of Alaska has filed a lawsuit against the US government in an effort to overturn the animal’s “at risk” status, says The New York Times. Sarah Palin, Alaska’s Republican governor, claims that giving polar bears protection under the Endangered Species Act will delay offshore oil and gas exploration. “The decision to list the polar bear was not based on the best scientific data available,” said Palin. The US interior department listed polar bears as a threatened species in May.

No it will be 2004 all over again. The media (and the repubs) will set an expectation that Biden will beat her silly and then when she does a passable job instead of a total fail it will be reported like she won.

I am pleased to have successfully predicted, yesterday on the "Obama Speaking Now!" thread, that McCain would choose a woman. About half way through the thread.

This means my SuperTopo political prediction success rate is 100%. To augment it, I predict that even if McCain is elected, FatTrad won't be appointed to anything.
The Christian right is overjoyed by Palin's nomination, which speaks for itself.

Looks like McCain is following his you-know-what around (i.e. not the organ in his head). Very weird choice.
She's vehemently anti-abortion and is a life long member of the NRA. Two very non-moderate stances right there.
I agree that Biden will kill her in the debates. I don't think that her physically being a woman is going to win over women voters other than those on the extreme religious right. Ann Coulter probably loves her...
EDIT - LEB you're nuts - other than being physically female her politics are the extreme opposite of Hilary's.

McCain likes craps. I think he came up "snake eyes" on this one. How will the hard-core conservatives feel about a women being one heart-beat away from being president since they believe a women's place is in the home, raising the kids, etc. The far right may even vote for Obama over this one.
