How long is this "scheduled" to go on?
They say around to may third or so.
But the first loop to El cap should be done very soon I heard.

We were over on Manure Pile three weeks ago (?) after parking at the road split, walked in without encountering anyone and climbed all day. We did hear a Ranger PA someone on the road (or maybe us?) about not being there, but no one came up and chased us out. I suspect if you're a small party, staying off the road and moving efficiently to the climb (and early) that you wouldn't be hassled. You might have to park at one of the more usual Cathedral parking areas to look inconspicuous.
I was shooting pictures four weeks ago right off the North road and had the construction guys buzz by a couple, three times without them hassling me...
[edit] there are a lot of other places to climb... and very nice too... down canyon. Warm now and probably hot by May, so take advantage of the closure to go do some other nice climbs.[/edit]

GPA has always been subject to rock fall. I can think of at least 3 occasions when I was almost killed by refrigerator- sized blocks over by Mr. Natural. In fact, I've never been at the west end when something didn't come down by the Punch Bowl, especially in the spring. Sounds like it's just gotten worse and worse. Lower Brother is real bad, too. Come to think of it, the Mirror Lake Area has huge piles above it that keep raining down death. Better just stay out of the Valley and watch daytime TV.
