Jstan is right. You will see lots of different gear at this event which will help you make decisions on what features you like. I just went to the REI website and looked at tents. There are something like 500 for sell on their site. If you really want a tent, then stick to the better brands such as north face, sierra designs, marmot. I don't much care for REI brand though many folks do. NO to coleman tents, kelty tents, campmore tents, or eureka tents. They are cheaper for a reason.
Find your local climbing/sporting goods store. One with a good history and ask them for help. Just be aware that gear can be very pricey. 300 to 500 for a good camping tent. That is if you are serious about possibly camping where it might snow.

you won't need any special water bottles or bladders, you are car camping, getting bottled water will be sufficient for this time...
...you might want a "day pack" to put stuff in, water, lunch, a rain jacket, to take with you when you're out picking up trash...
If you are going climbing, you can attach your bottled water to your harness if you are clever with duct tape.
DO BRING YOUR CLIMBING SHOES AND A HARNESS and a belay/rap device. (chalk, tape, crash pad, beanie, boom box are all optional). The Facelift is about climbers getting together, that requires climbing at some point IMHO.
Don't stress about your kit. You will have hundreds of volunteers willing to help you out when you get there. You could probably stroll into camp without anything and have a comfortable, grand time.... if you have most of it, someone else will probably have an idea on how you can get the bits you don't.

Last two question/comments....have not gotten a belay device yet, but have the rest of the stuff. What kind of belay device for someone new like me ?
Very tempted to just show up....never done that before. Have always been the one with so much extra stuff that anyone who forgot something could borrow. Maybe in extreme make over of life will try something new.

Hey guys, Went to the local Nomad Ventures today and did find out about the platypus. Got one (just the gut with no pack)cause you can stick it in your pack....an easy way to carry H2O for a day of climbing. If it doesn't work will let you know.
Got a simple Black Diamond belay piece and some biners and non locking biners.
Jstan, have a full compliment of pillowcases ready to GO!
How do you tie them off, prussic knot?
Vorpal Sword dusted and packed.
Ipod, fully charged
Love you all....remain open to any and all suggestions.
This is SO MUCH FUN.
OBTW....many of you have posted your campsite at YP. Mine is described by our Commander in Chief as "Yellow Pine A&B. I arrive on the 21st and am at A....then I move to B on 22nd and stay there until nite of 28th when I move back to A and leave on 29th.
Mr. Chix said if I parked my tent in the middle of the two sites I would not have to move at all. Can ANYONE help me understand this? Lynnie

hmmmm, well it works for little kids... :)
sounds like these guys and gals got you covered... say, wish i could go.. i miss the valley.... maybe some day.... hopefully :)
*ooops, who am i to talk, i am not as brave as i used to be, course that's cause i have heard-tell of many odd bear stories, so where-as in the old days, i loved a tent outdoors, now, the last times i stayed anywhere, we just slept in the car... :) (course, the cars didn't have to be in the parking lots, though)

Neebee, you're always such a sweetheart! Pulling for everyone's best interests. Special pillow and blanket on list....
BITD slept alone in the van in parking lots in the valley while hub on an overnight wall. Survived the infra red ranger camera's....anyone remember that techno?
Prob should give hoodies braces on their teeth instead of incarceration... Lynnie

Lynne, A and B at yellowpines are group sites. They are large sites which you will share with a bunch of other cleanup folks. Mostly supertopo folks. They are right next to each other so you can place your tent right between them and probably not have to move. Ask the camp host when you arrive.

hey lynne,
here is some common sense safety tips, enough about the standard camping stuff.
first and foremost , you are a woman, it more than likely will be a sword fest at the clean up ,so be sure to a. bring a whistle b. a hammer you never know who else besides bear 46 will try to get in your tent after partying.
also on a final note it would be ashame if you didnt pack some pop tarts.

Fishfinder, of course poptarts for honoring BITD, for sure, didn't even know they made them anymore. Will for sure include.... thanks for reminding me.
What you say about safety tips is so practical...yet it did get my funny bone! Thought only in college days you needed the hammer and the whistle....but on your best advise they will be by the fly....woe to those that do not read your post!!!

Here's a killer deal on a tent; good enough for anything Yosemite can throw at you. And about as simple to pitch as they come. Of course you could spend more.... but I'd suggest you save the $s for climbing gear. ha
