Great report!
What a fun morning! It was like watching the best movie ever, live! Hundreds of people cheering.
What a nail biter. I kept checking my watch. After the Glowering spot I was thinking they weren't going to make it, so long to go and so little time, but they kicked in the afterburners.
Watching the time tick away on the last pitch. Hans getting slowed down going from jugging to re-aiding the bolts. Then seeing 9:28 AM, knowing they were right there, but probably missing it. Then the agonizing wait for the official time. Off by only 1:45! The funny thing is no one was really bummed. Just feeling it increased the drama and anticipation for the next time.

Yo Tom-
Capt. Mat from the Cane Family Crew here checking in with feet firmly on the ground...... first of all a BIG THANKS to you for your wonderful reporting, amazing pictures (including through all of that smoke!!) and colorful commentary from the bridge. You are an amazing asset to the valley and a heck of a guy. Our extended family nationwide was reading your reports, some of which have never been on an internet message board before. :)
While we're doing shout-outs we have to also thank Wigball Zak, a friend of all friends, who met us on the bridge with cold beer and killer fresh veggie burritos after we stumbled down the East Ledges Sun morning. After a bountiful celebratory picnic we sent him stocked with leftover peanut butter and coffee drinks up to the base of Tribal Rite - what can we say but SEND!!!
Our trip up the rock was absolutely amazing, with 3/4 of our party able to experience their first trip up a big wall. JP was a fearless leader, and while we were on the slow boat, we had a rip-roaring good time, chatting it up and snapping shots of the ZM boys and just trying to sail the ledges a couple pitches higher every day. Once we got our freight under control the push went easier, which strangely coincided with more and more consumption of our beer, bourbon, and scotch.
Here's to the smoke continuing to clear up in the valley and to Hans and Yuji smoking their way to the top in record time!!!
P.S. Although we missed you on the bridge Sun afternoon, we passed along a bunch of the Korean gear to Wigball, including aforementioned personal-circular-enhancement-device (confirmed!). We were imagining some artsy shots with the neon green glow somehow framing the great white circle through your telescopic lens - a must for your personal artistic portfolio. You might want to take a wet-wipe to it first before extending periods of handling.

I just realized that the fourth member of our party had yet to be mentioned by name on here, and he definitely deserves some recognition for his hard work up on the wall. Sequioa (AKA El Tigre) is a rope-access work colleague of Jean-Paul's, and was essential to reducing clusterf*cks at all those cramped belay stations.
He earned his nickname after applying this temporary tattoo with his own saliva at the top of pitch nine. Did we mention we were having a good time up there?????

El Cap Pics - Tom, is it confirmed that they will be making another attempt Wed?
I would like to get the shots I missed from this Sunday, and I would be, hack, cough,... uh hmm, calling in sick for part of the day to get them.
Confirmation would be needed before Tue at 6PM, that's when I get off work and would be heading to the hill right after. WIll be bringing the booze, as usual, and it will be cold, but I will not be able to hang around afterward, you'll thank me later! LOL
Thanks again
Jingy

Thanks Tom.
Yeah, there was a bit of confusion on the last attempt. hahaha
You'll never guess, in about 8 of the shots I took of the guys speed climbing Salethe, first Yuji, then Hans climb right through the picture, lower right hand corner..... And I was so intent on keeping the (Salathe) climbers in the view-finder, that I totally zoned on (The Climb) of the fricken year!!!
I ,may never live it down, still kicking me-self in the rear for that one!!
