Bob,

shouldn't you be out climbing in such nice weather as this?

I need a partner for Hallett's on tuesday. Are you IN?

Nice photos though. What lens are you using???

need some help from the Southwest gang...

Debbie is trying to ID a cactus she bought, the guy (Poot's for those of you who know the route to Yosemite Valley from the Bay Area) isn't into the botanical specifics...

Anyone have shots of blooming Opuntias? she's specifically looking for Opuntia phaeacantha. Also, I'd like to plan a trip next year (unless you've got them in area pre-blossom!) for a desert photoshoot of these (and other) cactus...

Thanks

L...this is a shot of my wife with our son Jeremy beside her and our son Adam in the oven. Total hippie chick.

beautiful pictures as usual, Bob
"prickly pear" is a catchall for the Opuntias a genus which used to include Cholla (now in the genus Cylindropuntia)...

Deb sez (and she's the expert in this family) "the whole genus is a mess"

but mostly if people have pictures it would be great, I think we'll be on the road next spring for a desert trip... just starting to do some research as to where we might find them and when...

here is the wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opuntia

thanks again!

Ed,
there's a bit of prickly pear in the Mammoth/Bishop area. Depending on elevation, some of it has been blooming for the past few weeks, and some of it will probably begin blooming soon.

These are from last week on the Lower Rock Creek Trail:

I've also seen a lot of them (no flowers yet) beneath McGee Mountain and Mt Morrison.

UNBELIEAVABLE! You need to put these photos together in a book... I'll be the first to buy one.

Simply beautiful.

BCD,

Those close-ups are gorgeous--especially the seco lily and tigers. And that pale peach hue of the prickly pears...you almost never see that. Stunning. Almost reminds me of a Ghost Flower.

Bob,

I love that photo of your wife with Jeremy, and the not-so-hidden Adam bulge. Yep, hippy chick...and proud of it!LOL! You've got such a beautiful, loving family...talk about one of the best reasons--in my opinion--to feel you've really accomplished something in your life.

Thanks Bob, I freely admit that I like these photo threads. These are all from early this morning with a fairly heavy dew. It's still early in the season up here for good bee activity but the rest of the bugs are fierce.

Hope this wasn't too exuberant.
