Sir Hartouni, I think Lynne's right, some kinda ST flu going around.

Good to hear you had a good day on the Dome. Serendipitous indeed. Hang in there old man, you probably still outclimb me.

I'd always look forward to running in to you guys on the rock.

Dear Ed,

As a long-time lurker and one who will probably never meet any of you (except if you decide to come across the pond to the local lowlands), I have to say even without meetings like Ed's ST still provides a lot of positivity. When I first posted you, Ed were the only one to reply and welcome me, and it felt good. Just like walking into a bar in some climbing area and getting a nod from the beer-hugging guys at that corner table with the chalky, scraped hands and weathered faces even though you've never met. They just know. They just know you're a climber and that's 'nuff. We might have our differences, we all climb for different reasons and at different levels, but we all know what coarse granite feels like on the back of your hand, how reassuring that nut (or dare I say bolt) is after a sketchy section and how much energy you get from looking down in agony at your partner and getting just a teensy bit of a 'Go on bro, I got you' from her/his eyes.
As stated above, I'll probably never meet any of you, probably won't be climbing much in the States, but I still enjoy reading the posts. Empathy, caring and wit are what I see in most posts. Those are good things to have. The eventual fatigue accrued through getting into too many quarrels too deep is inevitable. But life is crappy enough as is, so focus on the fine unexpected moments with Tacoists and those posts that give that warm fuzzy feeling, shrug of the rest.

Oh, and climb on!

I personally really enjoy your TRs...and like reading about the obscure routes.

It'd be a shame if you stopped posting those...and now I feel kinda bad because I didn't post to the Circular Staircase TR, but read it...I'll havta bump that one.

There were some really cool obscure TRs posted by you last season too...anyone have or care to provide some links/lists?

I'll venture into a search in the meantime...

This was shaping up to be a mighty fine day when it just
ballooned into something of a different order.
And he's right, we're part of a whole new phenomenon.
Wagons are being circled, and many times those wagoneers had
never met before, not realizing that they were old friends.
Congrats, Ed.

Silly writings from an old man?? Not at all. Your post IS what this climbing thing is all about - beautiful days, camaraderie, shared joy of living. And it is only with a few years in our pocket, with some bumps and boulders on the road that have slowed us down a little, that we have the wisdom and ability to appreciate just how special this life of climbing and being in the mountains has been, and continues to be. Thank you for your beautiful and poetic post!

Hobo, I've tried to reply to your email twice, but I keep getting failure? Can't figure it out.

To answer your question, The ST Book Club is a loosely knit group of STer's (anyone can join) that read a book a month and then comment on it. The comments can be hilarious, thought provoking, lots of great information is exchanged and best of all we get to know our Taco Friends better.

We just finished our very first book, Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and now we are reading Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad....only about 137 pages....keep the summer books short. We will discuss H of D at end of June.

We'd love to have you join us and it is a great forum for practicing your writing and communication skills. Lynnie

Thanks Ed for your post(s). Being a climber is about the stories and people. Amid the tumult of our daily lives, it is refreshing to give pause and read something real.

Ed,

I was there on Saturday as well and recognized you and Gary from your posts on the forum. As you passed us racing down the descent slabs I commented to my partner Curlie "Hey I think that's Ed Hartouni and Gary from the Taco Stand." She replied " Oh Yeah, the guy with the awesome crazy hair."

Good Stuff!
