Kia (poop_toob) and I visited Micah all day yesterday (Tuesday, June 2). He broke his neck and destroyed his spinal cord at C5. What this means is that he is quadriplegic. He can flex his bicep and shoulders a little bit, but he can not extend his arms nor use his hands.

He is scheduled for surgery Thursday and Friday, which will remove the broken bones, replace them with spacers and stabilize the area around the injury.

Mentally he is all there and staying very positive. We are all hopeful that he will show some sort of recovery down the road. Nonetheless it is incredibly sad to see this happen to such a wonderful and loving person, especially when they are so athletically talented.

This is terrible news. Micah, though we have never met, my thoughts are with you. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and a positive outlook. All the best, friend. Brandon-

Oh god... I just saw this. I was simply lucky, and rehab is far from over.

My only advice (such as it is) would be to transfer to a good spinal cord injury rehab program. I don't know what's close to him, but one of the nurses in this New SCI forum would know.

Best wishes Micah, from one quad (albeit walking) to another.

I hope the new administration (whomever it turns out to be) does not hinder stem cell research.

hey there ...dear micah... i dont you know, but i will be praying... a friend of mine since years back has had to make that hard trek as a quad, and he didn't let it keep him down...

after he was up and about, he drove across counrty in his own van, and keeps up with the hockey that he used to love...

he said he always felt better trying to cheer other folks up... being that knew how low a fellow could feel...

may you soar to height that are unseen now, and may you have rich treasure that superceed any that you have seen yet...

get well in all the ways available to you, soon... and god bless

hey there ... say.. micah.. i did not know you had a family and children---but this is what i read...

says, later, when you can, some of the best healings come to pass by getting the kids involved and working together... it has offered some of the best inspiration as to on going therapy.. and helps them learn not to be afraid....

of course, this must come a bit later... but god bless you so much with this rich family that you have by your side...

kids are sometimes a very miraculous medicine, for both body and soul....

i will be praying... god bless, once again... i am very sorry that you are hurt....

Thank you very much to all the people who are praying for Micah and supporting his recovery. We are trying to gather all the healers and prayers we can, we're looking for a miracle. Benefit for him at The Comedy Store, La Jolla, July 10th, come, celebrate, support. =)

also, in one of the post there mention of surgury in the morning
so if anyone is up, you have time for praying, etc....
this is very sad news... lets see if we can help him fight somehow, standing the gap so to speak for the surgury time...

My understanding is that during the first few weeks, the true extent of the injury cannot really be known, due to what is called spinal shock. According to this article, some amount of recovery is the rule rather than the exception.

Micah sounds like the kind of guy who will keep fighting. Positive thoughts for the surgery.

I would also like to send a card.

if ANYONE is strong enough to recover mentally, physically, and spiritually it's Micah.
