If Locker received a personal email from the site asking him to delete, and he ignored that - then I understand suspending his account.

Otherwise - whomever moderates this site needs to get a clue as to how to appropriately moderate a site. If it's objectionable material - why was it allowed to continue for like a week?

"...you can find that all over the intardnet. this was not the place. "

You can find political and religious crap discussions all over the internet too yet it somehow belongs here.(?)

If you want to talk double standard... it's ok to run Saving Private Ryan uncut on national television but a partially exposed female breast at the Super Bowl is grounds for Congressional hearings. It's ok to air extreme violence and mutilated bodies but it's not ok to view a naked one. I couldn't sleep for 3 days after watching Private Ryan but your average porn keeps me awake for only a few minutes.

Pulling the thread is the moderator's right, I suppose, but giving guys the boot seems a bit over the top. Perhaps the thread was inappropriate here. Then just chop the thread.

Look at the list of names/avatars (not that you can now) of the people that contributed to that thread and you'll see a number of them are major players here. Toss one, toss them all. It's only fair.

that was a moment of silence brought to you by nature?

Locker, you have a freedom of expression, but Chris Mac doesn't have to provide his web site for you to express. You have your own web site, positiveresolesJT, why not post your images there? How good for business would that be?

For the most part, Chris has allowed a relatively tolerant wide range of posts. Sometimes things get out of hand, and he hears about it via email, etc. In the worst cases, the thread is eliminated and the authors may be banned.

Certainly you, Locker, knew that you were possibly stepping a bit out-of-bounds, testing the boundary with every escalating post. It is not so much the "secret moderator" that acted, but the quiet opinion of the STForum participants, who didn't post to your thread, but made their unhappiness known.

As your post title stated, this is a "Climber's Forum" not a "Climbing Forum," none the less, that title doesn't provide you immunity... there it a balance between individual liberty and the commonwealth.

I guess you got the later of the two choices from the famous quote by Patrick Henry...
...see you on the other side, and don't be late.

Locker - Sorry about the "Boot"? But if this is a prisoner of "Booting"... that would mean that a totally different person has started this thread... Right? So, if C Locker can get a message to Locker, the message is "It is with regret that I have to inform you...." LOL

Too bad about the Name loss.

Offensive? No. I can think of more offensive material than the Female form/body. Clad or not, it's all beautiful to me. So I was not offended.

I think it might be worth while for those who were offenced to post up here. If nothing else we can try to help them understand that that don't have to be affraid of the female body!

Freedom of speech? Yeah, you do have the right to post whatever, but you would have to stick to the rules of the site. So in that sense, there is freedom until there is slightly less.

Hope all is well! Good to see you, or your alter-ego, back again!

I think the owners of the site, CMac, etc., just don't want to be bothered TO moderate, and to warn, etc.

He knew he was doing wrong.

Those guys just boot when they get enough complaints, because they're out actually climbing, not reading every thread to maintain perfect rules. That would also account for the perceived inconsistency in enforcement - some things slip below the radar and don't get noticed, or complained about enough. Clearly this thread got a lot of attention, and complaints.

I liked a few of the photos in that thread, but knew it, and likely the author, was headed out soon.

I do enjoy locker's posts, and if he lurks for a while under another name and email address, and drops this topic in general, I'll bet they let it slide.

feckin sackless whiners. That thread was a safe haven from the endless mindless debates about bolts/style/gear/etc. Locker, thanks for your contribution.

Be careful what you wish for. Any rational formal terms of use policy is likely to be a lot more restrictive the the current unwritten practices. I'd prefer that it stay the way it is.

Locker got banned not for posting a few "off-color" images, but because he did it repeatedly over a long period of time. He just didn't know when to stop.

You have to admit that the moderators here are much more tolerant then the those of just about any other moderated site. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Two more cents worth:

If enough people complained about the nude-photo thread, then maybe deleting it makes sense. It is Chris' business website, and if he wants to nuke a thread, well, that's his call. And an "Okay guys, you've had your fun, now find something else to post about" note to the posters would be reasonable, too.

But booting them with no warning? Where's the justice in that? And why boot just two? Sure, Locker and HT threw most of the logs on that particular fire, but they weren't alone.

If deleting the thread was not enough, then why not hand out suspensions to the participants? Give Locker and HT thirty days of no posting, and maybe a one-week suspension to the others.

But really, there was no need for anything more than simply deleting the thread.

Censorship is wrong, This is (or was) America but our rights have erroded so quickly since 9/11. I didn't even waste the time checking out the post in question but if it was offensive to certain people don't read it. Politically correct is Niether.

"we will delete objectionable or offensive posts"

Doesn't mention a whack a mole...

I clicked thru that thread and it was not bad. The full nudes were kinda tasteful and in front of great climbing, mostly it was just underwear and funny shots. Whoever was offended by that thread and emailed the mods needs to get a life. You see the first couple photos (of a g-string) and know "this thread is not for me" and move on. Anyone who kept looking and got offended is a bigger idiot than anyone posting on it.

The Fet - Amen.

Honestly, I'm at a loss for words.

Hopefully this doesn't mean the forum is turning into a mild one...
