Two more nails in the conservative coffin:
1) Oil is priced for immediate and future delivery through the crude oil futures markets. These markets jumped sharply in price immediately after Bush's invasion of Irag. Markets hate uncertainty, and especially when the middle east involved.
A "terror premium" has been built in the price of energy directly from the disastrous foreign policy of conservatism.
Every time we fill up at the pump and pay our natural gas bills to heat our homes, we and entire world, are paying substantialy more out of our pockets because of our heavy handed arrogant nation building blunder in the middle east.
2) The turndown in the economy is directly related to the wide open "free market" irresponsible lending practices of conservatism. The Bush administration was warned repeatedly of the future dangers of NOT stepping in to impose tighter credit standards on home loan underwriting in 2002-2006. They flat refused, believing wrongly as usual, in "smaller government",or lack of needed regulation. Trillions of dollars in foreclosures and a collapsing stock market has wiped out Americans ability and willingness to borrow and spend. Only now, after the fact, has badly needed new regulation been introduced to change lending standards. Conservatism by definition means to be cautious and unresponsive, fearful of change. We are all paying the price for allowing conservatives to be in political power for the past seven years. Never forget that this same party opposed the creation of Social Security and Medicare, Affirmative Action, and the Civils Right Act. There is NOTHING good or positive about the Republican Party platform.

Lois's little world makes a lot of more sense than much I read from some of you guys. I also notice how your replies to her are often snide, vapid and unrelated to the topic which makes it clear you're uncomfortable defending your positions. That, fellows, is immature.

I think that's a fairly typical response from conservatives, they like the social programs that benefit them directly, but screw the ones that don't. I just did my tax returns, I paid roughly 5% of my gross income or $2,200 after my return. Seems like a small price to pay for all the social programs we currently have. Just think if we bumped that up a few % points to provide free or partially free college or technical skills education and a universal health care program so people not as fortunate as I am (health wise and job wise) can get basic health care. What would that mean to this country to provide those two basic items? Right now I pay $400/mo. or $4800/yr. for health care with a $3000 deductible for my daughter and I. That's 17% percent of my gross income right now! So, if 5% of my income covers police, fire, public schools, libraries, highways, national parks, etc. I'd gladly pay a few more % points to get free, or at least $0 deductible health care and college education. It boggles my mind how blatantly we get fleeced everyday by health care corps and conservatives scream "don't raise my taxes" when universal health care is propoesed. Yet, they'll come out en masse to vote against gay marriage. Apologies if this makes too much sense. Why don't conservatives scream when we subsidize Fortune 500 companies as they go belly-up or start paying for the war in Iraq?
