I definitely found those biners, but it's red tape on the PA, not orange paint. :-)
Maybe orange paint on the Cassin, though?

Here's a picture of my only one...thought I had more (eh, maybe I do). I'll have to take a picture of the way the gate mates with the rest of the biner. It's pretty cool. In the meantime, here you go:

I always thought the enscription "SGDG" meant under warranty from the government. I wondered who would cover that warranty should they fail.
It means `Patent without guarantee from the Government´ and was a simplified patent system in France used until the late 60´s, the prior art searches were minimal but it was an easy and cheap way of at least registering a design.

I recall some funky adonised PA crabs from back in the early 70s that wouldn't open under bodyweight. No use for aiding.
They were an odd quasi pear shaped affair.
