Just give those of us that travel a ways good advance notice so we can book as inexpensive of flights as possible. And while I love the sushi and all, any food is good. Warm is good. Soft rock is bad. Tacos attending is good. Guns and other loud noises are bad. Locations that makes eating easy for travelers who don't want to haul a kitchen is good.
Good idea Karl!

I thought $35 for kick ass sushi and amazing french toast (all I could eat as well!) two days in a row wasn't expensive...
just checkin'.... That would/should have been $35 for the first night and $30 for the second, yes? Or... do you owe me money? ;-)

I agree a spring-time Red Rocks gathering would be awesome.
Other winter options:
Cochise Stronghold
Xmas/New Year at JTree (a lot of us are there already, just make it known where you are and when)
Another Indian Creek gathewring might be in order...
Good idea, Karl!

Great Idea
Of coarse that is what the two Bogaloos were.
Red Rocks would be great, I was wishing for a hot spring a little closer last weekend.
Vedauwoo offers great climbing and free low regulation camping.

I don't think that expense has anything to do with people not going. It certainly doesn't with me. I haven't been to any of the sushi fests because I'm not stoked on doing anything communally. I like to make food for myself and then join in the fun, and since the sushi is such a central thing in the sushi fest, I haven't gone. If I were to go, camp in the complex, climb all day with you guys, and then run off to my camp to cook myself dinner, then come by sushi town later to drink beer and hang out, wouldn't that be a little strange?

i know. i'm the same way. i love nature and i love everyone and i love it that there are sushifests and i would be more than happy to pay a facilitation fee, but don't want to pay for the sushi just so it won't be weird. but i don't really want to deal with the weirdness, either. and i'm not willing to fork over dinero just to try the food - i don't like asian flavored food at ALL - not chinese food, not japanese food, not thai food, nuthin'. plus, it doesn't make sense to fork over that much money for food after traveling expenses, etc. i am a student. i am also an extremely picky eater. plus, i don't really eat meals - i eat small amounts thru the day becuz i don't like my bloodsugar swinging hi and lo - i'm very sensitive to that. and i can eat for more than a week on 35$. most of the people who go to the SF are established adults.

2. Sushi is cold, expensive and comes out in bits and spurts while climbers are pigs, ravenous animals who need to gorge.
Karl I will give you one out of three.
We are pigs
The Eel and Soft Shell Crab was OH so so hot.
35 smackeroos for breakfast with the Doctors fresh Cranberry and Hazel Nut bread cooked ala French Toast by Nature and Sushi by Nature. Thats Priceless….
Oh and no one walked away hungry.

compliments and every angle of appreciation accepted and enjoyed, that statement alone means more to me than anything. Well, not more than the time I spent with my friends (priceless).

at the same time, i feel like nature shouldn't have to deal with non sushi people. he puts a lot of time and resources into having these gatherings for the specific purpose of his sushi biz. that's his prerogative.

SS - nope. I no longer really have a sushi biz. I now do these things for fun. As long as anyone attending is willing to pitch in on the facilitation fee (maybe a touch extra) it's all good (lights, tents, stoves, power, pinchatoriums(TM), group coffee making things [ordering non-electrical stuff this week for that] etc. etc). I'm trying to figure out what my "profit" was for the four (five) I did so that I can turn it all around and invest it back into equipment, etc.
I like Karl's idea. He's right. It's all about brining people together. From my perspective having ridiculously awesome food makes it a no brainer.
Sooze had a great idea - a chili cook-off. I'd like to see that happen. One thing though... having the (sushi) tent set up which gave people a place to centralize seemed like a great way to facilitate socializing. I certainly have the hope that in the future I can get more people helping out so that I have more time to play with my friends. Group meals, whatever the menu may have in store, seems like a great way to make these ideas even more fun.

All you independent eaters need to get over it! Sushi/no sushi, just get your butts to one of the most fun climbing related gatherings I've been to. Sounds like you're afraid of enjoying yourselves. Come on down and let loose.

I'll have to say , as I lurk here often, these gathering threads usually make interesting reading. I tried to get an "Old Trad" gathering going up here in Seattle on the CascadeClimbers page a while back. Not much response from the locals. A couple of Supertopians showed up though, and a good time was had even though it was was only a small group. I volunteered the food. I do that well, being a professional for the last 25 years or so. I would love to help out on the food end if the timing is ever right. There is not much I can't do foodwise with the right technology. Who knows, maybe I can even drag Yerian along to tell horror stories.
